This Alstork commit really would mitigate losing JCL (if it happens). He shot better from 3 and only had 1 less made 3 compared to JCL. Not even taking into consideration that Alstork probably is a better overall player.

Yes, there is validity. I was tipped off a couple of weeks ago (and refrained from posting here, since it wasn't a public source). Now that it's on Twitter I treat it as fair game. Nothing is final yet.

But all is fluid...so we have that...

Guessing Alstork to LSU and Agau to SMU. Alstork seemed to enjoy that visit and has a staff connection. Haven't heard anything on Agau other than the article with the SMU board, which doesn't bode well.

Also, as others have mentioned, let JCL go wherever he wants. He's an unpaid amateur athlete who has to sit out a year anyway.

I surmise you're glad you were wrong on Alstork. ;)

I've been thinking about the expected value of Underwood at Illinois from a Bayesian perspective. Each event should lead us to update our prior assumption about how good he will be here:
  • Didn't bring any OSU assistants along: Concerning, how much did his staff contribute to his success?
  • Brings in Orlando Antigua: Unexpectedly big name, we aren't used to running with the big boys like this
  • Re-confirmed commitments from Frazier, Pickett, Da'Monte Williams: You expect to keep Pickett and DMW but keeping an out-of-state recruit is a big win
  • Brings in Chin Coleman: About what we expected, "replacement level player", a bit nervous that we aren't bringing in a system guy?
  • Brings in Gentry: Whew, system guy.
  • Re-commitment of Tilmon: Wow! Amazing!
  • De-commitment of Tilmon: Damn, this makes the move to retain Walker look dumb
  • De-commitment of Pickett: Not a big deal -- appears that this was mutual
  • Commitment of Mark Smith: Wow! A win against Izzo, Calipari and K? Unexpectedly good and justifies retaining Walker.
  • Transfer of DJ Williams: Well, we would have lost him if Groce stayed as well, but it's disappointing that Underwood wasn't able to get him to buy in
  • Misses on several decent transfer candidates: Hmm, should we have aimed lower for depth?
  • Possible transfer of JCL: Ugh, this looks really bad.
  • Incoming transfer of Mark Alstork: OK, this cancels out the JCL news.

Overall, I think we are doing better than I expected given the retention of Frazier and the additions of Mark Smith and Alstork, although the loss of Tilmon was a big blow and the losses of DJW and JCL are disappointing.

Would you mind doing this once a week, or so? It would save me a lot of time. Thanks for your consideration.

Yep, I'm pretty sure that is just what Coach Underwood was telling his assistant coaches. Might as well just turn out the lights in SFC . . .

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE???

But Alstork committed...what to fret over now??
Ah...we need a big. If we don't get a big, we are doomed...doomed I tell you!!

This is a pretty great recap of the Underwood era so far. It's already been a rollercoaster.

Two big recruiting wins by Underwood so far. Getting Smith from bluebloods and even Alstork became a pretty hot commodity on the transfer circuit, including a final four team from last year.

I'm liking where this is going.

I think the Oregon big guy could probably be our #1 option right now. I have no clue if we're recruiting him, but he seems very mobile/agile/talented. A really solid backup 5.

Pretty sure he would have to sit a year? With 2018 talent out there, offers in abundance, and limited possibly at that, I only see us taking a 1 year fix.:chief:

he would but as of now we'll have four open scholarships for next year. if JCL leaves then we'll have five. might be difficult to fill them all. I think I'd be ok if BU thinks he fits.

It's not tampering unless Depaul has been contacting him and asking him to transfer. More likely is that JCL's highschool coach who he had a good relationship with just got a new job at a school that is also close to home and he is interested in playing for his old coach again rather than playing for a new coaching staff here that he does not know.

Do you have any insight to refute it?
