Happ leading off. I hadn't remembered him doing that before, but apparently this is the 7th time. He doesn't really have the OBP you'd want in your lead off man, but with his speed, Zobrist's continued struggles, and the lack of any other real options, he could stick there.

EDIT - oh duh! I turned it on in the 4th inning, thinking it was the first. Happ not leading off. Never mind.

Cubbies are coming for you, Brewers! Now just 1.5 games back (and tied in the loss column). Pittsburgh (4.0) and St. Louis (4.5) aren't far behind either.

Complete implosion by the bullpen today. Does anyone here trust that Edwards, Jr., Grimm, Rondon, or Uehara could get a big out in a tight spot in a playoff game? I sure as hell don't.

Grimm, no. He should be demoted again ASAP. All the other guys have been pretty good over the past 6-8 weeks so they should be fine, other than perhaps Rondon who's been up and down. The other three should be fine.

Could always use bullpen help, though.

Two up in the loss column. Not a tie as far as I'm concerned.

Willson Contreras will get some MVP votes, deservedly. Probably should also get the Gold Glove, but won't.

I want 3 out of 4 from the Sox. I also want to see a good outing from the Professor this afternoon. If he can get his mojo back, the starting pitching suddenly looks quite solid.

Not to look past today's game, but the Brewers are getting pounded today. With a night of travel, a fried bullpen, and Jimmy Nelson not scheduled to start during the series, they're practically set up on a tee for the Cubs.

Cubs have a massively favorable pitching matchup tonight - Lester vs freakin' Mike Pelfrey. Hopefully they take advantage of that and then proceed to put the Brewers out of their misery this weekend.

After the Brewers the Cubs have a 12 game stretch with three out of four series with the Nats and DBacks. (With the wretched Giants thrown in for the other three games.). After that, the schedule starts to look very mild. Only 9 of their last 46 games are against teams that currently have winning records. 7 of those 9 are the Brewers.

Not saying it's all over but the cryin', but the runway lights are on and the sky is clear.

The Nats essentially held two batting practices yesterday, before and during the game.

And, the Cubs picked up [ W ] #54.

I'm still amazed by the Cubs upcoming schedule...

12 of their next 15 are against teams above .500 (3 Brewers, 3 Nats, 6 DBacks).

Then only 9 of their last 46 are against teams with winning records (7 Brewers, 2 Rays).

They have almost as many games left against last place teams, 19 (Jays, Phillies, Reds, Giants) as they do against teams above .500, 21.

took the family last night to the Cubs-Sox game and we had tix off StubHub in section 326, row 2, which is those terrace boxes just below the sky boxes.

we were about 2/3 the way down from home, between home and first . What a fantastic view of the entire field . Ive sat first row behind home at both parks many times in my life due to people I know, but I must say, from a viewing standpoint, last nights was about the best view of the ballpark I have ever had. Waiter service for food and drinks is nice, as is the carpeted hallways with comfy chairs and TV's if you want a little break.

The Sox do have a very fan friendly ballpark. Getting there and back home in 30 mins to Burr Ridge is nice too. Its no wonder why half the family men players on the Sox choose to live in Hinsdale/Burr Ridge.

We love to go to the CubsSox series every year. But since they moved it to 4 games , home and home, on weekdays , going to the Cell (GRate) is the way to go . Weekday or week night games at Wrigley are just a tough thing to do with work

EDIT: And catcher Alex Avila.
