Some recent Zion Griffin footage. Reminds me of Kipper. High motor.

What you shared above and then again in this post is along the lines of what I heard as well. Dee was in a bad place, as is expected going through that type of situation. As I said, I only had a small bit of knowledge, so you clearly have even more inside information on this than I. I knew he was struggling, and I knew he made some stupid decisions. The problem was, as the poor decisions racked up, and some of them became more and more serious, it turned into a problem.

None of my post was meant to drag Dee through the mud. I've met him many times, I lived a few doors down from him in college. He is a great guy. He was the face of our University for a few precious years. He was amazing to the community and to the fans and kids. I want him back in the athletic department as bad as anyone. From what it sounds like, he is back on the right track and I hope he is able to get back into coaching soon.:chief:

Not bashing either of you, but asking you to stop posting any "info" about a man's personal life on a message board. Especially one we all love and respect.

This is Corey Evans, who isn't known for always being correct on Illini predictions, but it does indicate that things with Ayo may not be as 'in the bag' as many here-- and on other boards -- want to believe. It's interesting that people connected with Xavier and Illinois both tend to think they're way in front with him.

With Chin on staff, he should be in the bag, but in recruiting it's never 100% until the letter is signed. If Ayo was sure, he would've already committed.

Starting to think I'd rather have this guy than THT. The athleticism can't be taught. He's still raw and has a ton of room to improve offensively skill wise and his defensive potential is yuge.

Is Xavier just recruiting Illini targets? Zion Griffin is long and plays like he is 6-7. Reminds me of the Indy Pacer who just joined OKC.

Man, I don't want to debate THT v Zion, both fantastic, but watching that video of Zion and imagining his frame getting, "Fletched"' if you will, he may be a late blooming athletic freak. :illinois:

Things are never "in the bag" until a prospect signs a LOI and then shows up on campus eligible and healthy.

Would anyone here trade places with Xavier? No doubt they've got a shot at landing Ayo and anything can happen, but we are in a better position.

It seems like Xavier is a finalist for a lot of the same guys we are. Don't remember that being the case much in the past other than with Scruggs.

Lot to like in the vid, but I don't think I saw him go to his right, like nearly, almost, once. But not actually. Even when it was open.

Needs a coach that will ride him on that, because that changes his ceiling a ton, and won't fly in the BIG. I've heard coaches say that is fixable, and I'm sure we wouldn't be offering if it wasn't. Lot of potential, and his body looks farther along than most.

Zion looks great. Still would prefer THT but I think he would really fit into this team well. He has the build and athleticism to be disruptive and the nice part is that he wouldn't need to play significant minutes his freshman year. This would give him time to improve his right hand and skill level before we need him the following year. Definitely the type of player that I wouldn't expect a ton from as a freshman but could make a massive soph leap after 1+ years in the system and with Fletch.

On the range of fixability, I think it's pretty fixable. In my experience, things that are rarely fixed are hands for a big man and court vision for a PG. For those two qualities, it seems quite rare that a player overcomes once in college. But going to your off hand can very frequently be improved.

There are plenty of examples of kids improving their off hand skills in the first couple years of college. Diamond in the rough. BU is a rock polisher.:illinois:

Edit: Fletch makes the rock!
