$44 million buyout
That is quite the stretch.
I've been very clear that there is an obvious, direct link between our current HC and the HC at one of the named defendants schools. That's all I've said.
To not make a statement when there is this obvious direct link would have easily been construed by the media as we are trying to avoid, or hide something.

Why argue anymore? We made the statement. What's done is done.
Will Louisville have its championship stripped? Have to say- I don't feel an ounce sorry for Snider.

Our current head coach was the HC at the school that employed one of the NAMED defendants at the time some of the alleged crimes took place. That is a DIRECT link. Any attempt to avoid this obvious link is just silly conjecture.
You stretched it to me believing that we are just as culpable as UL. I've not said anything other than we have a good enough reason to make a statement.
C'mon... Louisville and Pitino were implicated in the prosecution documents. Illinois was not. There was no need for a statement, it showed that we felt the need to defend ourselves as if we were somehow involved. No need to issue a statement, period, as schools not involved/implicated also did not issue a statement.
There are hundreds of schools that are monitoring the situation, I did not see them feeling the need to be honest and issue a public statement.

Too bad everyone couldn't just take a moment and enjoy the fact that Bruce Pearl may be going down in flames. AGAIN.

Anyone up for a separate thread on how to manage the U of I PR effort?
Last try at this.
That is, again, the whole point regarding making a statement. Look at the other schools that came out yesterday. Which ones were the most covered/re-posted/re-tweeted? The schools of the arrested assistants and Louisville. By also releasing a statement we acted in concordance with the obviously guilty schools. That is bad optics.
No, it is choosing from among multiple optics. Remaining silent sounds like a cover-up. Shrieking our innocence just begs the media to skewer us. We took the third choice - a statement that manages to appear transparent without really revealing anything. There was no perfect choice, but ours was a good one.
