Why does everyone care so much about what random posters on another school's site say?

its the same as reading this board right now about AYO, On both some of the stuff is really funny, some of it pretty lame, a little of it is good info. its just something to do when you have nothing else to do.

+1

And why are so many people visiting their site? They have a homer site, we have a homer site. Add the 100 or so Power 5 and high rated mid-major schools, and there are 100 or so homer sites. They have the right to think whatever they want. We really don't know much about Wake Forest before all of this.

Not that it is the end all be all, but Ayo retweeting all this Wake stuff might be nothing, but it certainly isn't positive. Have we ever had a commitment where the player retweeted the other team's stuff and not ours and then committed to us? It's not that it's 1 or 2 things. It's that it's 6 or 7 yesterday.

A teenager RT'ng complimentary things about themselves. The mind truly boggles.

If your Ayo and all the smoke is coming from one side.....how do you keep the suspense?

But has this theory every actually worked out? Like can anyone remember a recruit that used this tactic and actually picked Illinois?

Gotta love this one from the Wake Board:

"If we're "rebuilding", coming off of an NCAAT appearance and with the #11 recruiting class incoming, what the !!!! does that make Illinois?"

Let's compare:

Illinois:
Overall: 20-15 .571 W-L% SOS: 34th
2017 Class: 27th
Key Losses: F17.2 Pts, 5.1 Reb, 2.9 Ast, C 9.9 Pts, 4.5 Reb, 0.9 Ast

Wake Forest:
Overall: 19-14 .576 W-L% SOS: 26th
2017 Class: 29th
Key Losses: F19.2 Pts, 9.8 Reb, 0.5 Ast, F 8.5 Pts, 1.9 Reb, 1.1 Ast

Right now, the teams are pretty much completely even. If Illinois didn't !!!! the bed against Rutgers last season, there's literally no difference.

They do have the better 2018 class, but let's play a little here. Let's assume that Illinois gets THT, and we pick up a spring big on par with a 3-star George Conditt. That would put Illinois' class at 13th in the nation compared to 11th with Wake.

So, they're a year ahead in their rebuild, and they're not even that far ahead, if at all.

Don't forget, we replaced a coach who had no coherent offensive system, no effective defensive game plans, a complete unwillingness to change personnel, brought in a dynamic young backcourt to replace essentially no backcourt, and a new coach who runs about the best offense around which hinges on guard play. We upgraded big-time and have a lot going for us.

lol, gmab....going over to the WF site to read their posts is no different than reading Facebook posts, Instagram posts, and other social media. And all of us do it.

I guess. It just isn't enough for me to worked up. I'm surrounded by mizzou fans, so I hear enough "Illinois sucks" statements in real life. I come to this board to be with more kindred spirits.

My comparison to Giles is merely that a hometown player (in this case home state vs. out of state in our case home city vs. rival city) is in a recruiting battle that would mean a lot more to the home team. Not saying that every Wake basketball fan doesn't want Ayo, we clearly want him very much, but ya'll need him at a visceral level. I guess a better way of saying it is that you have a lot more to lose. If we don't sign Ayo we are still looking at a great class. If you don't sign Ayo you literally don't have anyone signed. You might sign THT or you might not, but Ayo is really the key for your 18 class. Without him it looks very bleak. With him it is starting to look very good for obvious reasons (to start with a top 30 player is a GREAT start).

Giles was literally playing pick up ball on the weekends with our team two weeks before he announced for Duke (he was on campus all the time for the year preceding his decision), so there was plenty of room for optimism for Wake fans. You never really know what is going to happen in a recruiting battle so every fan base cherry picks their own facts to rely upon. Just look at Nolley's recruitment as the perfect example.

If Ayo is attempting to build tension on the decision I think he is doing a good job :). Wake fans are getting pretty excited about the possibility. If he was posting all Illinois stuff right now I think most of us would have pretty much resigned that he chose the home state team. It won't be an epic meltdown if our hat isn't chosen (I have seen the Cliff Alexander videos...you won't see that), but Ayo has built Wake up pretty good since he left Champaigne.

As a fan I am having a blast following the saga. FWIW I have felt very welcome on this board, and while clearly my hopes are not your hopes it has been a good time inside the bubble of another school for a bit.

If feeling really good about a recruit is the fact that a recruit was on campus shooting hoops 2 weeks before announcement, then I can't help you. Not that many here have not done the exact same thing in the past, with multiple recruits, higher ranked than Ayo :D

But if you look at the situation right now, unless things drastically change, it is easy to see which school closer represents Duke/Giles with respect to where this recruitment is leaning towards.

And welcome again, a bias towards your school is not a bad thing.

Loving the WF attention we are getting, bless their hearts. It's like back when Temple came onto this board. Basically the same thing.

Good point, but I don't come back to my gang and shout 'LOOK AT WHAT THEY'RE SAYING OVER THERE! I'M SHOCKED AND THEY ARE SO WRONG!'. Of course they're going to be homers for their team, I would be shocked if they weren't.

Not sure, but I can think of a lot THT have used that tactic and NOT picked Illinois. Elijah Thomas comes to mind...
