When it's invite only and illinois guys are getting the invite it should tell you something.
I need to lay eyes on this invite list. I'm gonna contact my favorite news anchor and Illini grad Ryan Baker to ask him what's more important to him the Cubs game 5(if they make it to Thursday) or Ayo at the Nike store?

If he was worried about doing it away from Illinois fans he could just announce on twitter or release a video or something along those lines. The defeatist attitudes on this board are truly remarkable.

It's been that way for the better part of 10 years. Given the history, is it truly remarkable?

After going through our Giles recruitment we also know exactly where you are right now as we were there last year. Who knows how this one turns out, but we realize ya'll 'need' Ayo a lot more than we do right.

You try to present that Ayo is a similar situation for Illinois as Giles was for Wake. However, that is not the case. I followed the Giles recruitment and Duke was the heavy favorite, almost all analysts had Duke for a long time (the timeline is still available to review) and other than Wake fans, the expectation was that Giles would end up at Duke. Right now, unless things change, we are in Duke's position with Ayo, not the other way around.

People cite all the nut punches (and there have been a couple legit ones) but most of the time we freak out about missing on a recruit when the tea leaves were all pointing to us missing out on the recruit and instead of accepting that people spend all their time trying to justify why the tea leaves are wrong.

The last recruits announcement they went to was Mark Smith's...

Has there been another local recruit that actually had an announcement not on Twitter where Illinois was one of the final selections since Mark Smith?

Now I didn't know it was invite only, and if it's only Illinois media guys who are getting the invite, then that's something.

But we don't know that's the case yet. It's very possible, if not likely, that Wake Forest media guys are also getting the invite. They may not go for logistical reasons, but that doesn't mean only Illinois guys are getting invited.

It definitely sounds like everyone is pretty confident that he's gonna choose Illinois, so I am optimistic. But Illinois media guys who report on basketball recruits going to report on a local basketball recruitment is not a big driver of that optimism.

But this is just me. I, by no means, am trying to suggest that everybody has to agree with me.

I don't care what they do with hats, but please no bogus hats like this guy. Never have seen that one before.

How Illinois would it be for Ayo to invite all of the Illinois media, players, coaches, etc... and then choose Wake haha. That would be worse than Cliff. Ayo seems like a great kid from all accounts, I'm sure he will end his recruitment with as much class as he has shown throughout the process. Excited to hopefully welcome him to the Illini family.

I understand the uneasiness... but there hasn't been an announcement like this in a while, obviously with Smith too but as an Illinois fan, I would feel really really good about where we sit with Ayo right now and who actually is attending the event. Everyone should take a deep breath and relax because things are looking very bright, especially with another visitor in THT this weekend.

Not that it is the end all be all, but Ayo retweeting all this Wake stuff might be nothing, but it certainly isn't positive. Have we ever had a commitment where the player retweeted the other team's stuff and not ours and then committed to us? It's not that it's 1 or 2 things. It's that it's 6 or 7 yesterday.

So Manning is clearly selling him "great recruiting class, I was in NBA and I can get you there"

we have "home school, legit 2017 class, don't be a traitor, Chin Coleman"

I think its 50/50 and we will just lose out because that's what we do and this is the Fall of Whiff.

“i'm glad illinois was able to hire an assistant coach solely to land a good recruit. if they can just hire a new assistant coach every offseason with ties to a highly ranked player, they might have 2 or 3 good players in a few years, assuming no early departures of course.”

We are now Missouri lol

As if Chin doesn’t have a huge connection to MIF

We also have exciting offense, particularly for a point guard.

Still agree that it's about 50/50 but at least mention the offensive system.

A little different.

Coleman has much more Men's basketball experience and Ayo is ranked in the 20's ...... not a guaranteed superstar. Yeah it is to get in good with Chicago and the Fire...but its not like he was coaching women's basketball and his kids are good.

Why does everyone care so much about what random posters on another school's site say?

#2,599
Right now, the teams are pretty much completely even. If Illinois didn't !!!! the bed against Rutgers last season, there's literally no difference.
So, they're a year ahead in their rebuild, and they're not even that far ahead, if at all.

We fire our coach for accomplishing basically the same thing as what they think was a great season.

That to me has always been the million dollar question. If you can't handle reading Illinois sucks in all it's many forms, don't visit other message boards. They don't look at things the way we do.
