I don’t follow FB recruiting at all... so, do you mean back to the Zook days?

Apparently our Illini had most 1st rd draft picks in BIG From 2008 - 2013 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

No not even close. Middle of the B1G last year and I think they'll end up there this year too. That's okay though. We're coming off a period under Beckman and Cubit where the only players we were getting MAC level players. And not even good ones, but like middle of the road MAC offers. The fact were getting actual B1G quality players is exciting in itself.

The strength of this staff though has shown to be their awesome scouting. Often they're a players first P5 offer and all the sudden in a week that player is rolling in them. A great testament to this staff is how some of the least heralded kids from the last class ended up being the stars of the team. That's very Zook-esque. Zook and his staff had an absolute master eye for talent well beyond the headliners he'd bring in.

So true with Zook, Prough, Merciless, and a host of others. He had a great eye for 2 star talent that was just about ready to blow up.

Unfortunately he was blind as a bat on Saturday

New for 2017-18, the early signing period for football the runs from Wednesday, December 20th thru Friday, December 22nd. The traditional regular Signing Day will continue to take place (Feb. 7th, 2018).

“With few exceptions, we expect to sign every verbal commitment we have. This is [now] the main Signing Day.”

If a player has been offered and has verbally committed to the university, that team expects him to sign. Coaches have put in months, if not years, of work toward their current verbal commitments. They do not want to spend another second ensuring those players sign. In fact, that has long been one of their biggest annoyances with the recruiting process.

To put it another way, a lot of schools think upward of 80 percent of their recruiting classes will sign in December, with only a few players waiting until February.

Zook started out with a bang, but couldn't sustain it. Plus, while his classes had some A talent, there was not enough B/C players and a lot of his recruits didn't make it to CU or washed out quickly. Point is, Zook's recruiting was a mixed bag. And at the end, it was bad.

According to the 247 composite rankings, we have not had back to back National Top 50 recruiting classes since 08-09. There's a very good chance that we end up with another Top 50 class. If we land half of our higher rated remaining targets, we could crack the Top 40.

More importantly, recruiting is about filling needs, not necessarily about getting the highest rated prospects at any given position. Someone like Petersen isn't as highly rated as some of our remaining targets, but he plays a position where we are desperate for depth. Losing out on a higher rated player like Anderson would be frustrating, but he plays a position where we do have good depth and quality players.

QB and OL are/were very lacking in terms of depth and quality and we are addressing that in this class.

Let's finish this class strong.

It's interesting that a class that currently sits at #60 nationally is last in the conference, especially considering that we still have a good shot at some players that would move us up. The worst B1G class has averaged a national ranking of #72 the last five years. Suggests that the conference floor might be getting raised.

So according to 247, if we were to add the following:

Verdis Brown, Merlin Robertson, Dayven Coleman, Ayodele Adeoye....we would have a score of 200.99 and end up just outside the top 30.

Tack on Luke Ford.....and we would score 214.64 and be ranked #18.

Hey, if you are going to dream, dream BIG. ILL...

https://twitter.com/_TMBoog go ahead and read through some of his recent tweets! There's no need for a cup check on this one. :illinois:

I expect us to add Brown and Craddieth too. Things could really be turning a corner in recruiting right now.

My apologies, Dallas, I totally forgot about you....adding Dallas Craddieth (in addition to the others mentioned) would give us a 247 score of 219.19 and a class rank of 16!

Good thing you included him in case he reads this board, got offended, and decided to go to Iowa based on that. :thumb: :)

For me, hoping that Illinois ends up around 195 on the 247 scale. Getting Brown, Petersen, Coleman, Gaskin, and one of Robertson/Adeoye would put them around 193-197. I'm guessing Robertson/Adeoye isn't super likely, so a combination of Joseph being re-ranked + Craddeith could make up the difference. Also, to echo FT35, would really like to see another DE in this class.

Jeremy Werner said on his radio show this morning that Ayodele Adeoye will be announcing his decision on Wednesday. He will have four hats on the table. I'm glad I'll be traveling that day so I don't have to go through that drama :D

At any rate, Jeremy said that Adeoye's parents would like him to stay closer to home but Texas and Oklahoma will be tough to beat.

I've also read elsewhere that if Missouri could flip Perkins then Adeoye would come to Illinois. Perkins staying at Oklahoma will probably draw Adeoye there.

He's been so quiet with his recruitment that no one really has a good read on what's going on here. The three visits to Illinois this fall are just odd, however. Can anyone remember a non-commit doing this? He was also here for Junior day in February and then made a visit in May.

As far as Ford goes, just look at the official visits. If he doesn't take one here then he obviously isn't coming here. At least we got guys like Craddieth, Petersen, Anderson, etc. on campus for official visits. Just like Daniels not coming for his official visit, if the kids aren't doing that then they aren't coming here.

Ford made an official visit to Texas and didn't even include them in his top 5. Texas A&M just offered him this weekend and they are in his top 5? He was committed to Arkansas but they aren't in his Top 5? That list was just odd. It's probably just between Auburn an Georgia at this point and including Illinois is just a tip of the cap to the staff.

Yeah, I'm with you. Obviously, my list was done a little tongue in cheek. I'm just really excited for some of the wins we've gotten recently and love how we are trending.
