Williams is pretty much a guarantee and he is the best athlete on the team. Getting the best of the bunch is always good plus it will justify the hire of Patterson. Washington's father and Paterson didn't always see things the same so I wouldn't count on him. Shammond is a toss up but he is really the last of the good ball players of the 19 class on that team. The rest of 19 are really 1AA or below type of kids that are being packaged with the big three. There next wave of Power 5 talent kids are 2020 but they lack size.

Really? IRA is listed at 6'5'' 320lb with offers from Arkansas and Florida, Childress with decent offers. And according to JW, Andrews is underrated because he gets overshadowed on that team. I am not calling you wrong, just pointing out that that statement is very opposite from what has been mostly reported.

I have to agree. I don't know scouting, but Andrews and Henry are both top 1000 players, at or better than our last two class averages. Childress seems legit, but he did have Marcus Washington on the other side of the field, I would bet that Washington and Williams got a lot of the defensive attention. But, I trust the staff to make the right decisions
Top 1000 isn't a trend that will win Power 5 ball games. That being said, there is a huge difference between hidden talent and hype. Hype is the luck of the draw, however talent is not. There are less than a handful of other '19 players in the St. Louis/Metro East that can match Williams, Washington, or Shammonds talent. There is a Henry on most if not all of the larger schools in the area. I will also add my judgement is from watching them play a game and not media recruiting hype. We all know that all "offers" aren't legit right?
Are we so sure that top 1000 is a trend that won't win Power 5 games? Top 1000 is just about the top 10% of all scholarship athletes for FBS Football. While it may not be the only key, I think it's a great start.

I wasn't disagreeing with your statement. Just wanted to know what you were basing it off of. Yes hype is alive and well. However, beyond the individual talent of Henry and others, if we make Illinois a "destination" for Stl kids, then maybe we have a better shot at the Adeoyes and Craddieths.
Fair enough on the points. I would still say that top 1000 recruits are foundational to a program like ours. But certainly it does seem that there are two groups, difference makers and soldiers, With no recruiting expertise, I’d take all of them
Any word on the visits? Besides they went well.

Lovie is not the guy who is going to light up the room, ala coaching types like a Jim Valvano, or if looking for a modern day type - a PJ Fleck , who let their A type salesman personalities do the work for them.
Lovie is the quiet guy, understated, who lets his 35 year reputation of honesty in his personal and professional life, and his history in the game speak for itself.
It doesn't mean Lovie or an assistant doesn't try to close the sale on Sunday afternoon at the end of a visit, but we are much more likely to get commits once the lad is back home and has had a chance to talk things over with mom and dad.
Lovie's approach is a formula that may take a little more time to bear fruit, but ultimately , it is exactly what we need. I happen to think Brad Underwood has a similar style, and I don't think its a coincidence.
Our ship is headed in the right direction in both programs. As impatient as most of us are to see results, we need to give it time.

There's been a lot of lean years in football, and enough in basketball to get me to realize that waiting another year or two is not a big deal. I simply want to see us do what Wisconsin and Michigan State has done since 1990, and you don't do that with guys that sell snake oil.

I believe this has been Lovie's intention. From what I've read, he doesn't want the impulsive commitments that can happen with high school-aged kids. He wants them to take a day or two and think about their decision, instead of having a kid who is later remorseful for his decision and potentially de-commits.
I get the idea behind this if Lovie is actually employing this method. I would argue we probably keep more of the impulse commits than we lose.
People severely underestimate sunken cost. A kid commits, gets extremely excited in a school, makes plans, etc. But nobody will ever know if this is true or not, just a thought.

I am just throwing this out there with absolutely no inside knowledge...or possibly knowledge in general.
If Lovie is the type of guy he is advertised to be. Then he really is going to care about the player on an individual basis. Which means he would tell them to go think about it, talk to your parents, friends, then get back to us.
Also, if Corey was always telling his players at Trinity to not jump the gun and commit early, but to take your time and see all available options first, then tried to get them to jump the gun now that he works for a college, how would that make Corey look in those players eyes?
Just saying, this is how I personally see the situation. I really am not going to look for many commitments from the Trinity kids until the summer.....Man let me be wrong!
