Color me unimpressed. Was equally unimpressed with Ebo/Vesel. Lets hope I'm wrong ala Ebo.

Offer list is really weak. Maybe its more where we stand as a program but I feel like we should be able to pull more highly touted guys. Maybe we just missed a lot this year.

Anyway, if he can shoot the 3 as well as it appears he can, and his defense is a plus, I'm all for him. Also I believe in what BU sees. Glad to see the staff hitting recruiting hard. Probably not going to influence much next year.

EJ has a regional final right acrosss the river. Maybe we’ll have a presence there as well

Yeah, the Antigua recruiter hype is unwarranted. About as unwarranted as the John Groce hype for supposedly reeling in Oden and Conley and those guys.

The head coach typically seals the deal. For Ohio State, it was always Matta. That's even more the case with UK and Calipari -- the guy is one of the truly legendary recruiters out there who has a special appeal to one-and-done types. He's unapologetic about sending kids to the NBA after one season in school -- in fact, he urges kids to leave early if they're ready. And when you have the backing of UK behind you, that kind of dynamic personality is going to absolutely clean up.

The idea that Antigua was somehow responsible for getting the stud big men that UK got was laughable.

UK people thought he was effective. He has the rep of being able to coach big men as well. No doubt the head coach matters more, but assistants often lay down favorable ground work. But yeah, head coaches have to close.

So most likely this either means there will be a known transfer or no Tevian Jones.

Still in it big time for Tevian Jones imo.

Think we still add at least one 5th year combo forward or big as well.

Always felt we would be adding 5 total in this class including Ayo.

Underwood’s first statement on recruiting as our coach was to disregard stars and let him go get guys that fit his system and that he wants at Illinois. I, for now, choose to back and believe in the guy.

So if we have 2 committed and we had 3 schollies, and we have to assume that the last scholly would be reserved for a B1G?

Then who are the leading transfer candidates to open 2 schollies to take a 5 person class?

For Jones/Ramey or whomever?

oh. cool!

Somebody got some quick video on him?

6+ minute highlight of a game against another top team in their conference Iona Prep who has a kid going to Stanford and Richmond at least.

Silky smooth shoot.

No idea who will transfer out to be honest, but thinking there is at least 1-2. Check out the averages, on a yearly basis 1-2 transfer out and it is usually higher a year after a coaching change.

Jones we will absolutely take if he wants to come, look for a visit soon.

Ramey who really knows, but we are still recruiting him hard now. Will follow him at as many of his remaining games as possible. You make room for him no matter what.

I still think we add at least one 5th year combo forward / bigger player. You have seen a few of the names like Cunningham or Caroline if they go that route. There will be more coming out, always do.

Still have guys like Trice out there, I can see them taking him when he decides in April if there is a spot left for him.

No idea on that big Giorgi, looks like Vald will be visiting us. He just picked up a Syracuse offer today.

He was one of 7 players nominated for Mr. New York Basketball. I'm guessing New York has lots of h.s. basketball players. If Williams, or Smith, or Alstork, or anyone other than Frazier had been able to consistently shoot from outside, it would have been a much better season. Griffin has multiple skills. Lets hope they continue to develop.

Spelled his name wrong on the Mr. Basketball nominee list.

Interesting that he was 46% from 3 in HS, but low 30's in AAU (with presumably more D-1 athletes). If scholarships are limited seems like a pretty big reach for an unranked player, but maybe we'll have more scholarships than expected. Guess time will tell. I like that his dad coaches in the NBA.

I hope he can fill it up from 3 in college at close to 50%, that would be just what the doctor ordered!

Welcome aboard....

The Staff clearly think this kid can shoot or he wouldn't have gotten a ride. 40% plus from 3 would be lovely.

4:00 - Was that a flop? Looks like the elbow made no contact. Flopping should be a technical foul, regardless.

Welcome to the Illini, Alan!

Not really sure what's driving the optimism with some on Tevian Jones. Is it simply because Ayo was pushing for him to come here?

If nothing else, Griffin coming here seems to suggest that Jones isn't likely to happen. I can't imagine us not taking 2 bigs (Trice and maybe a 5th year guy?) in this class, so would the staff really take Griffin if they also felt good with Jones? Perhaps, but only if they thought that a bunch of scholarships are going to open up.

And as for Ramey.......I still think there's virtually no chance that happens.
tevian jones is a SF AND Griffin is a SG and I think that this have no effect of his decision

Agreed. That's where Weber went wrong in his years here. He started getting away from guys that fit his system and chased for the stars. Hopefully Underwood gets the guys that he wants and fit the profile of this type of team. The ball is going to be in Trent and Ayo's hands a lot of the time on offense, so we need to get guys that can compliment them and make their job easier on offense and hopefully Force turnovers on defense.

Taking Griffin today and still staying in it for Ramey?

Must be some turnover happening that we don’t know about.

Dream Scenario: Ayo, Ramey, Trice, Griffin.

Looks to me one of current guards is going to transfer and there will be more openings then just than the one that is left.

Yes. From this day forward, everything depends on Coach's ability to recruit HIS type of players. Alan Griffin isn't a hot prospect on the national scene - recruited by the likes of De Lasalle, Delaware, etc.- but Coach U offered. So be it.

Welcome Alan!

But it all comes down to winning. Illinois in the 70s was lousy, got much better in the 80s, mediocre in the 90s, great from 99 until 2005, and then ...

I hate this waiting for a tournament-caliber team.

St John, St Bonnie and others offered and Seaton Hall and Rutgers were trying to get involved. He has length and a nice stroke.
