Why did they include a missed dunk in his highlight video...?

he ain't gon' be dunkin' on people.
Not after Bodies by Fletch™. :D

Always good to see somebody want to play for the O&B! This looks like somebody who is able to put the ball in the basket, something we desperately need. Also looks nice to have somebody join Ayo.

Predicting 2 or 3 Tom Cruises on this LLUOI. Welcome to the family, AG.

EDIT: going to have to second that observation on the Writing Illini. I just don't open it any more; it's one of those sports blogs that's just an embarrassment to its fanbase. Somebody enroll this poor Rees guy in a writing course.

Excited for Griffin's potential. Underwood is looking for athletes and think Griffin will be a great Three and D guy. Those long arms are going to cause a lot of problems for teams with our style of play. And defenders will have to respect him hanging out by the three point line which is something we didn't have on the wings this year as much as we should, so that will help open up the lane. Also how that his rebound numbers translate to college, because that could help mask our lack of rebounding from the post some.

"It can happen to anyone." Kipper Nichols. :D

Actually, I think they included it because of his smile after he missed it -- looked like he was still enjoying himself.

Welcome to the Illini, Alan!

Not really sure what's driving the optimism with some on Tevian Jones. Is it simply because Ayo was pushing for him to come here?

If nothing else, Griffin coming here seems to suggest that Jones isn't likely to happen. I can't imagine us not taking 2 bigs (Trice and maybe a 5th year guy?) in this class, so would the staff really take Griffin if they also felt good with Jones? Perhaps, but only if they thought that a bunch of scholarships are going to open up.

And as for Ramey.......I still think there's virtually no chance that happens.

I got to say, I don't think Antigua gets the credit he deserves. Let us keep it in the real, Illinois is not Kentucky. To think he was going to pull that kind of a** here is "Missouri fan" thinking. But look at the major improvement to Black's game from last year. I am assuming Antigua's coaching has something to do with that.

Not critiquing his coaching whatsoever. I think we all saw Leron and Greg this year and improvements that were made throughout the year. However he has yet to show me that he is able to recruit at an elite level.

You can give the “time” excuse, but Chin didn’t exactly have a ton of time to lock Ayo up? and we all know Ayo was never coming here with Groce at the helm so it was strictly Chin and BU.

For as heralded of a recruiter as he is, I expect better than 3 star talent and Matic Vesel.

Yeah, the Antigua recruiter hype is unwarranted. About as unwarranted as the John Groce hype for supposedly reeling in Oden and Conley and those guys.

The head coach typically seals the deal. For Ohio State, it was always Matta. That's even more the case with UK and Calipari -- the guy is one of the truly legendary recruiters out there who has a special appeal to one-and-done types. He's unapologetic about sending kids to the NBA after one season in school -- in fact, he urges kids to leave early if they're ready. And when you have the backing of UK behind you, that kind of dynamic personality is going to absolutely clean up.

The idea that Antigua was somehow responsible for getting the stud big men that UK got was laughable.

You obviously don't recall the days when everyone was calling Trent a reach and saying he should redshirt. Then he got on campus and everyone started changing their opinions. I said he probably wouldn't start but he has tools to work with and a good looking shot which on this team will get him on the court. I'll go on record and say he will be a contributor his first year.

I actually do recall those days, I was not one of them. You could see the level of play instantly from Frazier. I stated quite awhile ago, that I thought we actually had 3 Mr B-ball's Smith/Williams and Frazier. Still think DaMonte would have won it his senior year had he not been hurt...forward though.

I don't see that from this kid. Recruiting in maybe, sure, get his brother maybe, sure, make a presence on the east coast, sure, getting a true "possible starter" day one, no way. Do I think he can contribute sure maybe, but we have already witnessed how freshman do with the structure of the BU offense/defense (other than Frazier), Allen albeit nice to have on board will struggle mightily his first year of B1G boy ball. :chief:

That said welcome, I am glad to have him if he wants to be here, we still need athletes that can compete at the rim.

Interesting that he was 46% from 3 in HS, but low 30's in AAU (with presumably more D-1 athletes). If scholarships are limited seems like a pretty big reach for an unranked player, but maybe we'll have more scholarships than expected. Guess time will tell. I like that his dad coaches in the NBA.

I hope he can fill it up from 3 in college at close to 50%, that would be just what the doctor ordered!

Welcome aboard....

Very true, easy to recruit when the program/coach is honey...little harder to do when the program has a history of vinegar like we have had in the past. Lets see if OA can overcome that, Chin did with Ayo, lets see if that continues.

The AAU % is the most accurate, it involves better athletes daily, would also involve a mindset change maybe...(do I belong, can I dominate) etc...I would guess that the AAU % would be more typical of a B1G expectation after he gets acclimated.
