Loren Tate said it will be a while before we know if Black is returning. He also said Kipper is definately returning. TeJon is 50-50 and Matic is gone.

I’m hearing the same, except TeJon is more likely to leave. If we can get both Samba and Vlad, with Jones; that should pave the way for more athleticism and some interior defense.
Also, Ramey looks like an outside chance that the staff willride out to the end. Very little reason at this point to spend any resources on too many other players in the pool.

Tate put a lot of emphasis on getting Ramey... a lot... which it doesn't sound like is going to happen...

I agree with his other two points and would like Ramey but would put Jones as a higher priority on a need basis but may change if TeJon leaves. Adding a big is so much more important than anything else.

There's need, and then there's setting the table for the future. I think getting Ramey along with Ayo would make it easier and faster to fill out a higher quality 2019 class.

I would love to get Ramey. If that happens will definitely bode well for the future. But is he an absolute need for next year? I don't agree with Tate in that regards. Getting a big man is definitely a high priority. Cain and Jones would be a great start. Joneses athleticism and shooting would be a good get.

You don't think winning is the primo driver? It seems to me Trent and Ayo would be suffice to cover the guard position for Liddel and Okoro. Don't understand the Ramey requirement unless it's the relationship thing.

I pray Leron stays. He has really evolved into a great college player and seems to be getting even better. He would be the man next year here. I hope he stays. I could understand why Tejon may consider leaving given that he struggles with his shot and with Ayo and Trent he will be the third in line at best. I hope he stays and works on his shot and free throw shooting. I hope Finke stays and can play the 4 too. There is too much hate on his game. We need both Finke and Leron back for their Senior year.

Has he? He’s a good scorer. Terrific baseline shooter. He’s not nearly the rebounder we thought he could be. He’s not much of a defender and he’s a hacking machine.

I hope he comes back. I hope he scores 20/game and grabs about 3 more boards a game. He might be able to if he can stay out of foul trouble.

So, if all the "rumors" and hand wringing are true and happen, we'd have another 4 spots (TJL, Black, Matic, Finke) open up to add to the 2 that are already open. If that does indeed happen (and I really hope it doesn't), how many of those would we fill this year? Considering we have some high-level targets next year, I'm assuming we'd want to hold over some or use some on 5th year grad transfers so we'd have more than 1 scholarship for next year.

Doesn't sound like Finke plans to go anywhere. If we get a couple legit bigs, he could go back to playing mostly the 4 which would be much better for him and the team. Hes just not a banger. Maybe his shooting touch would come back then too. Finke running around throwing in 3's at 40% or so would be a nice headache for opposing coaches.

Yeah, but does it have anything to due with Men's BB? Also, are you just guessing, hoping, or do you have the inside scoop???

I'm trying to introduce some positive thoughts into this thread.

Finke NOT going anywhere. Grandpa said he will finish his school at Illinois. I have known him[ grandpa] and the family for at least 45 years. Now unless things have changed in the last 2 day he stays.

Isn't it possible that Ayo is a one and done? He's that good. We need all the good players we can get. Regardless the position.

So who is Loren Tate? What I mean, is his info from actual connections or is he just grabbing stuff off of forums such as this with regard to who is transferring?

Per TJL. I hope he stays! Cannot imagine him even wanting to leave. He improved immensely toward the end of this season & as we learned, Underwood plays who is working hardest & is the best for the next game. One never knows the injuries or what may change between now & Nov. Would also beat sitting out a year.

In short, he's not likely to just make things up, and certainly has plenty of connections within the athletics department. That said, he's probably offering quite a bit of opinion here.

Thank you. My fault in how I phrased the question. I know he has been around the Illinois program forever. Just did not know if his info was generally spot on or opinion. Have only listened to 2 of his podcasts & have not really read his columns.

That aside, would love to be a fly on the wall if Underwood, Weber & Brown are all talking...

Maybe great is overstating it. Has has made great strides and is I as good a post scorer there is in the Big Ten at 6'7". Plus given he is constantly guarding men much bigger and taller he is I feel he has done very well. I think his fouls are not foolish like they used to be. The last half of the season Leron played outstanding imo.

The only person he sounded real firm on was Nichols, who according to Tate, actually said he was coming back. The 50/50 comment on Lucas didn't seem to be based on anything. His comments on Black seemed at least to show an understanding of the situation. I don't think he is grabbing stuff from forums.

Kipper is not going anywhere, he is already at a disadvantage with his first mid-season transfer so him remaining inactive for another year makes no sense, even if he wanted to.

I hope he does. I was thinking that if Morgan Park wins Friday Nick is gonna have them practicing.. (I mean conditioning) all day Saturday
seems a little late in the year for conditioning.

If you need a practice, get em up a 6 am...work to 8 and be in C-U by noon. easy.

Samba Kane- This Big Guy would be a huge addition to front court size. His ability to pass the ball for a big man is nice to watch.

The first Official Samba Kane Fan Club will be launched here :illinois:when he commits.
