Its really a two horse race in Columbus now.
OK State at -8, Illinois at -7.
Next best, UNLV, at +5.

Illini getting a good chance to match up with the Cowboys and it doesn't seem to be a negative for either team. GO ILLINI !

Keep it up, Illini.

Remember: play the course, not other teams.

Just finish in top five. But then again, why not win it if you're in contention?

I wish Tadiotto were playing better. Maybe tomorrow.

8 of the top 13 individuals in Columbus come from the top two teams; Illinois and OK State.
That is dominance !

It is interesting to compare the different regional results after 2 days.
Not important, to be sure, but interesting to me at least.
This comment is about relative course difficulty.
Teams under par after 2 days.
College Station, 3 teams (one of which is TAMU (home team?))
Norman, OKL, 5 teams (one of which is Okla) and could change, as play not done for the day
Kissimmee, 9 teams under par !
Raleigh, 10 teams under par !
Columbus, 2 teams under par
Pacific, 8 teams under par and play is not done, so could move.

Anyway, the contrast between College Station and Columbus versus the other regionals is just interesting I think. This message brought to you by "my remote login doesn't work and I'm just waiting for the tech guy to get me back to work"

Big name teams that have some work to do tomorrow to qualify for nationals:

5th ranked Vandy is in a three way tie for 5th place in Kissimmee regional

6th ranked LSU currently in 9th in the Pacific regional, although only midway through 2nd round. 19th ranked USC even further back in 11th in same regional.

9th ranked Cal is in 11th place in Raleigh regional

15th ranked Arkansas tied for 9th in the Norman regional

Should be interesting for those teams tomorrow.

Weather delay again.

I haven't looked at the other regionals, but I would bet the weather is helping the course in keeping scores high.

It really doesn't matter though, you don't get an extra cookie for a low regional score.

Mike Small's attitude at these regionals is always play to win the regional, instead of "just finish in the top 5." He never wants his team to have the attitude of playing not to lose.

As we've all seen with our football and basketball coaches over the years, playing not to lose is a sure fire way to lose.

This was really an ideal regional for Illinois. Overall, it's a pretty weak field, but they have the #1 team in the country to challenge them and bring out their best. Also, it's on a course they are familiar with and played about a month ago.

Yes, Coach Small said after the first round that his team was in a good position to WIN the regional. I like that attitude

Mr. Tadiotto can shoot low: he won the 2016 Northern Intercollegiate as a freshman! at Beverly CC in Chicago.

Yes, Illini have course knowledge in Columbus. Great!

I'll have to look it up, but does anyone know if any of the current Illini have played Stillwater?

I can't remember if I've said this before but : "play the course." I'm sure it's another critical thing Coach instills in his players.

I think a couple of times, at least, Palmer and Nicklaus lost tournaments by playing against each other instead of concentrating on the course.

Last time I use that phrase "play the..."

I won't use the phrase again, but t think there's truth in that adage.

I had heard "play the ..." before, but a certain book really brought it home to me.

If you're serious about golf, no matter your skills, read "A Season in Dornoch" by Lorne Rubenstein. I've read so much about about golf, but this book is special.

You don't have to buy it; there may be a copy at your local library as there is in mine.

I'm still preparing to do battle with the 9-hole, executive (as in short) course I live on.

Wish me welll.

I've played Dornoch....what a great course. Should be part of the Open rotation. I guess it's too far north.

Never heard of that book. I'll have to pick it up.

At this point in today's round, unless we really blowup the scoring, it looks like second is ours to lose. Then, also only 2 shots out of first. Onward!!

I think Feagles and Baumgarten are showing that the cupboard won't be bare next year and beyond.

The team really took offense at the remark by the guy on the Golf Channel that the dynasty would be ending after this season :)

We're a 5th golfer away from making noise at nationals. Gio is going through a rough patch this week.

Do you throw Brendan O'Reilly into the mix at nationals?
