Gio was thrown into it last year as a freshman and was 1-1 in match play. I'm sure coach will give Gio every chance to get it straightened out before the Championships. He would definitely be the better choice if he's ready to go.

But I think you also need to have O'Reilly ready to go as well. O'Reilly seems to be more inconsistent in his scoring, but he can also get pretty low as well.

They need one of the two if they want to make noise!

Yes, you've got to field a team that gives you the best chance to succeed.

Gio played at 2017 NCAA because, apparently, he was playing better than Baumgartner. But I don't think you throw O'Reilly in there now unless Gio has had a complete loss of confidence. I don't think that's the case, but what do I know?

As I said, Lipparrelli might have made a big difference this season.. But he went pro in Italia. Why? Misssed Italy? I understand. But the story was that he was called back to shore up Italy's chances of landing Italian players on the upcoming Ryder Cup in Italy.

I wish Eduordo nothing but the best. Illini could have used his experience and leadership as a junior this year.

Next year's Illini are young, and I see great things ahead.

I'm hoping for yet another Final Four at Stillwater -- it's quite possible.

May this so-called dynasty continue.

Thanks, Illini golf!

Golf Channel has coverage of "Belgian Knock-Out" tomorrow starting at 6 a.m. Supposed to be a unique format.

Gee, guess who's the host? Thomas Pieters. And I assume fellow-Belgian Thomas Detry will be in the field. Gio: watch this, I will.

Yeah, his entire family helped get a European Tour stop back in Belgium.

Looked like the first 2 rounds were regular stroke play, then the top 64 played head to head 9 hole stroke play matches. 3 rounds on Saturday (round of 64, round of 32 and round of 16), then the final 3 rounds on Sunday (Quarters, Semis and Finals/3rd place).

Interesting format.

As a PSA, I'd like to inform all of you that there's a great deal on polos on Amazon.

Came across it quite by accident, but here's the dope:

Google Amazon, then enter University of Illinois Cutter & Buck Genre golf shirts.

I ordered a navy blue: the logo? Plain, great font ILLINOIS with Illinois column 1867 above it.

For $34 including shipping and tax, I got it in 3 days! Delivered on a Sunday by USPS!

I'm wearing it right now What a beauty! Some at school were checking out the logo today.

You can order other college teams, maybe pro, too. And in the color of your choice! For Illinois, obviously orange, n. blue or white or even gray if you prefer.

I can tell you, this shirt retails for about $60 or more from schools directly. I paid it.

I ordered large, just like my other C&B shirt, and it's a great fit.

The unique thing is that the shirt has the column logo. I know there are some 200 columns at Memorial Stadium honoring WWI Illini dead. But aren't there some column ruins on campus that the logo represents?

No, I'm not in the pay of Cutter & Buck or Amazon; I just like a good deal.

Golf shirts! Not polos! I don't play polo. Cutter & Buck shirts that I've bought have a structured colllar. So it is with the shirt I described above.

Just sitting here, thinking about next week, hoping Gio is getting in some terrific range time and working out the little kinks. We need you, Gio !

It looks like there was a brief weather delay this morning. The scoring site says that play resumed at 11:48 am. Guess the Illini will be a little late unless early groups close gap. Come to think of it, there is probably a gap in times and afternoon probably not affected.

Edit: forecast makes it look like only Friday has big rain risk. Rest of tournament just very hot.

I finally figured out that they are going off of both 1st and the 10th tees, so there will be a delay in afternoon starts. Doubt that the Illini finish today and there are teams starting even later than we do.

Need a little help here.
On the scoreboard, anyone know how to see the detail of the Illini play going on right now? It seems that because they are still playing Friday's rounds . . . but it is Saturday . . . I can't get the details to open up. I click on "Illinois" and I get the 2nd round detail, which is blank, not the Friday detail. Anyone figured this out?

There should be a "show round" area at the bottom of the scorecard where you can click on their round. There you can click on the first round.

It looks like the Illini have finished their first round. They are updating the scores now.

According to the Illini Golf twitter, they just started the second round.

Final first-round scores: Meyer E, Feagles E, Baumgarten +2, Tadiotto +2, Nick Hardy ? (still updating)

#219
They finally updated Hardy. He finished the first round -1.

That gives the Illini a first-round score of +1.

Good start!

Impressive that Texas Tech is in 2nd at -6 with their #1 golfer out with an injury.

Also, the Big 12 is looking really tough. I'm sure it helps that they're playing a very familiar course on their home turf, too.

Currently: Texas Tech 2nd, Texas 4th, OSU 5th, Oklahoma 6th, Iowa State 10th, Kansas 16th, Baylor 26th

Wow! Look at those kitty kats jumping out to that big lead. Very impressive indeed for the Big Ten.

They were -7 on the last hole yesterday (two eagles and three birdies).

They are not starting their second round until later this afternoon. I will not be surprised if they are over par by the end of the day.

You can bet your bogies on that!

Anybody see the video of Thomas Pieters breaking his club around his neck.
