how many rounds do they play before its cut down to the final 8?
They cut to 15 after three rounds and to 8 after four rounds
how many rounds do they play before its cut down to the final 8?
Illini not finishing the second round well.
+5 on 16 & 17 to drop all the way down to 18th place from 7th.
It's not looking good at this point.
If teams tie for the 15th spot, I think the best three rounds of non-counting scores break the tie. Correct?
If that's case, how's O'Reilly doing? Couldn't find it on Golfstat.
O'Reilly is not playing. Tadiotto is the 5th golfer.
If you look at how bunched up the teams are right now, Illinois is only two shots out of 6th place.
To put that into perspective, at one point on the back nine Illinois was 9 shots ahead of Texas. Now they are tied.
They just have to play a good round tomorrow and slowly work their way up.
What was I thinking? But the tie-breaker is based on non-counting scores, right?
Not saying Illini are out of it. I agree they've got work to do tomorrow. GO.
Tadiotto is the fifth Illinois player, or fifth seed on his team. His scores are not counted, as I understand it.
If you add all five Illini scores you get 631 after two rounds. But if you deduct Gio's 151, you get 580 which is where Illinois as a team stands, according to Golfstat.
But Gio's 3rd round score or total for 3 rounds may count in the event the Illini tie for 15th.
I think it's the total for three rounds.
A bit confusing.
Further, if teams tie for 8th of 15 at the end of stroke play, they go to an actual playoff - as Arizona women did last week and got the eighth spot in a two-hole playoff. It must be the same for the men.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
P.S. I certainly hope we don't have to worry about no stinking tiebreakers. Nick and Dylan, keep leading the way!

Each teams total for the round is the 4 lowest scores, whoever posts them, not just seed 1-4. Teams could have their number 1 seed player shoot the worst and not have to count it, just like Texas Tech did today. Their "number 1 seed player" shot +11 today but they didn't have to count his score.
Wow! Look at those kitty kats jumping out to that big lead. Very impressive indeed for the Big Ten.
They choked big time today.
I hadn't noticed this before, but to me these small things about today's golf are interesting.
They send the teams out in score order for the most part, with the leaders going out first. Nice if you're Illinois, as you know pretty well what you need to move on. Even nicer if you are around the cut mark, trying to make the final 15 teams for Monday. But the opposite of the PGA, where the low scores go out last.
I also thought that BYU did not play on Sundays? They have the last tee time, but it is clearly a Sunday time, so I must have that wrong.
Don't think either point is very important, just thought it was a little bit interesting.
By the way, the back 9 is overall about a half stroke harder than the front 9. And Illinois went out on the front, so closing strong is a little harder, although 18 is a comparatively easy hole

If all that is true about BYU, why don't they have their score up and finished?
