Underwood working to revive Illini-Chicago pipeline

Mac Irvin Fire director and coach Mike Irvin started to develop his relationship with Illinois coach Brad Underwood when he was hired away from Oklahoma State in March 2017. The time Underwood has spent in Chicago has stood out to Irvin.

"We love him here in Chicago," Irvin said. "As far as from a recruiting standpoint, you couldn't ask for nothing more than what he's delivered so far.

"Illinois, that's like Chicago's school. It's Chicago's school for the older people that we know. I know Northwestern's thing is they're Chicago's school now, but I'm from the old school. We all know Illinois is our state school. To see him interacting with everybody in Chicago, that's great. That's perfect for the city and for the state. We love his presence here."

Word on the street is, if they are on the MIF, we have first right of refusal. Just wait and see how this starts playing out.

And we will be getting a big soon. Going through the process right now. The admissions office is busy.

Let me tell you something my great grandma used to say, feed the noisiest cattle first, and you will always make the group happy.

I hope the street is right! Also, grandma seems to have a lot of good sense.

Hey Tctornado, what were you saying?:thumb:

this has to get even the staunchest of critics salivating at the mere thought of us being able to land that kind of talent. Now whether we do or not.....

That's not half as much talent as Lorenzo Romar flushed down the toilet at Washington.

What gets me salivating is the thought of beating our Big Ten rivals.

When the THT situation went down if Underwood didn't get a guarantee we will get any/all the MIF players we want, he made a huge blunder....time will tell.

Assuming it went down as the sewing circle wants us to believe, and the choice was Ayo or THT with no future considerations or promises, then the correct decision was already made.

I know this has probably been explained ad nauseum but exactly how do the irvins exert so much control?

You're not going to get anything too specific about recruiting relationships on a forum --it's impossible to know how strong they are, how well it works for any given player's recruitment, etc.. Plus, wherever a kid goes, there's invariably speculation and sour grapes.

Having MIF on our side is a good thing, assuming you like watching good college basketball.

You're assuming that the Irvin's had anything to do with that situation, which is far from a guarantee.

You're also discounting the simple fact that Ayo is the better player and he committed first, so we already made the proper choice.

SMU graduate transfer Akoy Agua will finish his career at Louisville, per multiple sources. Agau is immediately eligible. Played his first two seasons at Louisville.

Probably doesn’t. They have room for him, and are still the favorite to land him.

Surprised the middle part is going under the radar as much as it is. Seems to me Ward is implying we have tall person help on the way, which would be, very exciting.

Considering Irvin's statements within that article, I would def say MIF is on our side. Especially the comments about IL being the state school.

Would anyone trade in Walker for an Irvin? Discuss.
