The doom and gloom of this board never ceases to amaze me. Sure no one is happy with last years results or early recruiting outcomes. But not every single potential recruit that decides to go elsewhere is a loss. Who on here truly is aware how interested the staff was on Shannon. TRULY?? I tried to allude to this in my last post. The fact was BU was never sold on him. He was a long term project in staffs eyes (if anyone has access to Sturdy, his writeup today illustrates this very well). Illinois “offered” extremely early in process as good will to MIF. This isn’t a “we didn’t want him” post...the fact is he wasn’t prioritized. He just wasn’t. It looks bad from a PR standpoint, but I can say with 100% certainty, no one on the staff is upset today.

** This isn’t previous staff(s) where recruiting played out in media and message boards. It’s tight lipped for a reason. They are talking to kids that hasn’t been posted anywhere. Relax!! Expect some big visitors soon

We lost a recruiting battle to DePaul. That's nice.

Everything I’ve heard is that this coaching staff works it’s butt off in recruiting. Losing KW to UK is understandable, but losing out on a kid we seemingly wanted in state to crappy DePaul is terrible. You never know what’s going on behind the scenes and how much they really want a certain player, but we’ve kind of sucked at getting early commits from kids. If we keep going late into the recruiting process without commits we end up with 3rd tier players. It’s gettjng harder and harder to be an Illinois fan.

It's well beyond the time to retire the concept of a recruiting "pipeline."

I’ll make make prediction, with two recruiting losses this past week I bet the PR wing of the Athletic Department releases images of the new basketball jerseys this week. Haha!

DePaul is now ranked at the 7th class on 247. Obviously it's super early and they'll slow but it's still something that doesn't reflect well on the program

Henricksen on Shannon: DePaul lands late-blooming Lincoln Park star Terrence Shannon

“It’s home,” Shannon says of staying in the Lincoln Park neighborhood and choosing DePaul.

“It’s where I felt the most comfortable and where I think I will feel the most comfortable in the future. They did their job, and I feel like I can trust them. There were no lies with them.”

“I felt like with the other schools they would be good with me or without me,” says Shannon. “I felt more needed at DePaul, and I want to help build the program back up.”

The third quote is likely true, but still smarts to lose a crootin' battle to DePaul.
