Werner retweeted an article about this. Got me excited. HOWEVER, I am concerned about his off the field issues. If this actually happened, he better handle his business. "In walks Coach Patterson"

After reading that article, I started reading some of the Miami fan boards and it sounds like there is quite a bit of friction in the locker room between players and staff. Most of the posters are on Thomas side. Not that it exonerates him of anything because he's also widely seen as their best player.

Sounds like a Mark Smith Esque hostile environment. Make this man eligible next year!

DB's are young and we are looking at least one JUCO there. There is another JUCO LB'er we have offered that would be a really nice get and that is Victor Viramontes. Adding a JUCO WR and three or four that would make the two deep and preferably start on the defense does not hurt us. I would take Victor and Dru both. No need to take a ton, just get starters or at least two deep help.

maybe we can make another run at the Juco LB Allen, now that Colorado has fired their coach

I am typically on the side of steering clear of character issues. However, in the current state of our program and Lovie’s reputation as being able to mentor and relate to young men...sign Thomas up and hope for the best. Saw this kid play in person in high school and he would make IW our second best athlete which is saying a lot!

If a player is dismissed from a team, do they become eligible right away?

I think Whitman can petition in behalf of the hardship of the football program. All kidding aside, would need major help from Coach Richt/Miami and then our chances would be slim. Would love to have him next year with Corbin, Smalling, Crumby, Isiah, Beason. He would be great in the RPO.

Possibly, I think Finke needed that wording to make his transfer easier. Although he was a grad transfer, his situation was more predictable.

It's amazing how Richt has lost Miami after an incredibly successful 2017. The Turnover Chain was marketing genius and it looked like the program was finally climbing out of its doldrums.

Hope we land him, but that he also needs to mature and buy into the mentorship provided by the coaches and adults. Richt has been a straight shooter since his time in Georgia, he is the type of coach we would love to have if we didn't already have a solid coach.

So what do you do about Thomas if you're Illinois? Do you approach him or wait for him to call you? Since he's no longer on Miami team I suppose you could call him, right? And I think if Mark Smith was granted a hardship, so could Thomas. Thoughts?
