Illini Golfers in the Pros

Chopra has been sharp all summer. This article says that he transferred to Northwestern: https://www.golfchannel.com/news/whos-going-where-2020-look-college-golfs-transfers
However, he doesn't show up on their roster: https://nusports.com/sports/mens-golf/roster
I was disappointed with this transfer, he had flashes last year and is a very solid upper classman at this point. I know that hunt and Lang should make up for it but I thought he was gonna be very solid this year.

does anybody know if a spring season is planned and if so is there a match list?

I'm not aware of any conference announcement but golf has to be the safest of all collegiate sports. There is no reason not to play in the spring (these kids are playing now, anyway, in other amateur events). The only rationale that I can see the conference/ncaa using for not playing might be financial. Athletic depts. are taking a big financial hit this year and golf would do nothing to mitigate that.

Nice list DRS. Got one more for you - Ed Lipparelli. Currently ranked #574, has played really well in the ALPS Tour (3rd tier tour in Europe, equivalent to the Canadian Tour) with a win and five runner-ups in 2019. He has struggled in three Euro Challenge Tour starts since the break, but he could be primed for a breakthrough year in 2021.

Well done FlyNavy, Eddie has completely slipped off my radar. I remember how disappointed I was when he left to go pro. Great catch and he is on the radar now.

Its been a couple of weeks since an Illini pro was in action, but we've got two who made cuts and one who is in contention.

First off Thomas Detry had a solid first two days and is right in the thick of the Cyprus Open. Yesterday, I checked in at the turn and he had just doubled the par 5 10th to slow his momentum but since that point he was 7 under for next 19 holes and currently sits T-5 and is one shot off the lead. Detry is absolutely poised to become a force but he has had problems sealing the deal on the biggest of stage. Would be great to get his first win this weekend.

Low and behold D.A. Points has battled all the setbacks and makes his 1st cut in 20 events. Fighting a wicked hard day in Bermuda, with sustained absurd 25mph winds yesterday, to card an even par 72. Good for him, after all he has been through it has to feel good to be playing a weekend.

Detry moved into (tie for) second after third round. One stroke back. Final rounds have been his downfall, though.

Ugh, an early double on a par 5(second of the week) for Detry, he is battling back on the final 9 but again a final round disappointment and is now 5 off the pace.

D.A. finishes up with a T45, just played steady and around par on the weekend. This had to feel good and hopefully a sign of good things to come.

Detry faltered on Sunday a bit again with his highest round of the week, albeit a 69. He has a lot of great stats behind his game. He is plenty long with an average drive over 300 and his putting is not bad. Seems like a confidence issue to get over the hump. Another top 10.

Detry one shot off the lead...
and he is following it up with a solid if not spectacular 2nd round to keep himself right in the mix. Needs to notch another birdie on the final two to keep his name near the top of the leaderboard. Solid play again from Illinois's most in-form pro.

This tournament is different. Scores reset after round 2 and the top 16 from round 3 move on to Sunday.

Here is the Golf Channel link which talks about the format. I think it is a really cool idea

super weird and I am a stick in the mud for golf format changes, I'm a stroke or match play guy. Detry is poised to miss the final round by a stroke unless one of the 3 guys at -14 play +1 for the remaining holes. par 5 18th is gonna make that a difficult scenario for Detry. A hole he didn't take advantage of this week.

If I read the linked article correctly, the survivors now start over and the low round will win?
