Ugh...I certainly don’t want any part of the defense I’m seeing from Buffalo right now. Is it possible JW is using this game as a final indicator?

I see a lot of people here underestimating JW. He doesn't do normal coaching hires. He's going to kick this search up to eleven. This will be the most unprecedented coaching hire in human history. Hope you're all excited to see your new HC, the re-animated corpse of Bear Bryant, roaming those sidelines for the next 50 years.

Well, Leipold's entire operation is built around staff cohesion and this DC getting shredded by Ball State is absolutely coming, so.....

Now imagine these posts in Year 2 when it's Illinois vs Iowa instead of Buffalo vs Ball State

Leipold stuck with both D3 coordinators after going 2-10 and being the second worst team in FBS. That's how he got here. That isn't viable in the Big Ten, we all know that.

Sure you've thought this through, Josh?
And let's be clear, it would be that absolute height of idiocy to let one game (let alone one half) dictate the view of Leipold as a candidate. Overreacting to small sample size is a one-way ticket to failure.

But the fundamental questions, for me, of this process, are what is the overall plan, and how robust is that plan to inevitable headwinds it's going to face.

And I said pages ago, it is probably not viable to think you're going to import this whole staff and hold them together for four years to build up pedestrian recruits. That's an extremely weak, swiss cheese plan. Reality is going to run that over like a freight train.

History says our staffs don’t get a whole lot better during the tenure of a head coach. I can’t see LL having the contacts to turn that around.

Okay, I know Fickell is a pipe dream, but his team fell in the polls after not playing: Do you think he may be thinking “I will never get where I want to be unless I am in a major conference?”
