I'm most concerned if spring football is canceled and he loses that valuable time in what appears to be his strength: coaching. Would be huge if he could "coach them up" to a bowl in the first year and show recruits right away that he can win at this level.

Northwestern proves that you don't have to recruit lights out to at least win the West.
There were expectations of this team going to a bowl. If most of the guys come back next year, I don't think that those expectations should change,

Whether or not this is sarcastic it got me thinking. I wonder if the backup QB type player generally makes good coaches because they lacked the natural talent required of starter, but were able to train well enough to become a backup, and therefore tend well towards training others.
I think this is correct.

For example, in MLB, most managers had not been all-star players, at least in the good old days before analytics ruined the game. Of course, there were a few, but most of the managers were ordinary players or even career minor-leaguers.

I was hoping to see something from his defense. I know and think we all know he can design an offense, but eventually you have to stop someone.

I have a sneaking suspicion about it being Todd Monken, but still think Bielema much more likely than the apparent consensus of the board.

The more I read about TM, the more I like. Really like. His offenses have been tops at most of his stops. He'd need to hire a average to above average DC, and we'd need some recruiters on staff, but I think I would really like this hire.

I bought a new Corolla once. I got 35 mpg and it never broke down in seven years, not even once. Also, I was already bored driving it on the way home from the dealer. I'm not saying Lance Leipold is a Corolla. Well, I guess I sort of am saying that.
Soooo... is the thread now migrating to a new quadrant in which we're discussing which candidate is where on the hot/crazy axes?

Not a good ending to the half for LL and Buffalo. Let's see what halftime adjustments they make and how the team responds.

If JW can help steer him toward a good DC...LL would be very promising
Well, Leipold's entire operation is built around staff cohesion and this DC getting shredded by Ball State is absolutely coming, so.....

Now imagine these posts in Year 2 when it's Illinois vs Iowa instead of Buffalo vs Ball State

Leipold stuck with both D3 coordinators after going 2-10 and being the second worst team in FBS. That's how he got here. That isn't viable in the Big Ten, we all know that.

Sure you've thought this through, Josh?
