Seriously we need to get over this. He’s not on the team and will never be. Move on
Ifs/ands/buts are an integral part of sports legend and lore. Illini fans to this day wonder how things might have been different if the Whiz Kids hadn’t been sent to war, or if Kenny Battle hadn’t slipped, or if Charlie Villanueva or Brian Randle had been on the floor against UNC.

The game threads are all over the map. I think most fans understand that Curbelo is not just an impact freshman, but a player that's arguably generational, in the sense that we haven't seen a PG as creative as he is in a long time. You may be right that he's not getting enough love, but as good as he's been, he's played like a freshman too:

Defensively, he was lost early on, and flat out missed assignments
T/Os have come down, but he was a TO machine early.
The game was too fast for him in the lane, at least early. Had some really ugly, out of control drives.
He's not shown any ability to hit a 3, which is kind of a big deal for a PG.

So if you consider his adjustment period, those game thread criticisms were going to add up. I think at this point in the season, it's pretty clear he should be getting a lot of PT, and makes the team more dangerous for the post-season run. I looked up his PER, and he's actually a tad higher than Ayo was his freshman year (17.1 vs 16.9). He's also got a better DRating. He's a smart, team first, fiercely competitive player. He's going to get a ton of love as long as he's here.

I argue this is the biggest hole in his game right now even considering the turnovers. Could you imagine if he was just an average 3 point shooter on average attempts? The defense would have to close out to him with urgency and that would make it easier for him to attack the primary defender.

Since he’s not a great shooter that primary defender can play off a step, which helps to initially clog the lane on him and gives him less space to do his thing.

I’m betting that he is a better than average shooter by time he leaves. Not his role at this point playing with Ace, Trent, Ayo, Jac, DaMonte, etc. who are three point shooters. His role is to get it in the lane and find an open man.

Has the B1G put any consideration into canceling the conference tournament? IMO the worst case scenario is them trying to cram all these postponed games into the end of this season, then playing the conference tournament. That could potentially leave these teams burnt out by the time they get to the NCAA tournament, leading to at minimum bad basketball or much worse...lots of injuries.

IMO, either play the conference tournament and don't worry about makeup games (other than where it fits well). Or cancel the tournament and add games to the end of the year.

All I know for sure is it would be a shame if a true regular season champ couldn't be crowned fairly in what might be the strongest conference in history.

Who is this Krutwig guy at #6?
A guy that many think, hope we have a chance to get in the transfer portal. Would be really nice, but I honestly don't know much about him. I'd take him, however, based on what numbers he has put up.

Any smart people figured out a game we can squeeze in now that the Michigan matchup is cancelled/postponed? Here are the listed games we have remaining with some notes about those teams' schedules:

2/16 vs. Northwestern: Probably out, as they play Wednesday and Saturday
2/20 at Minnesota: Probably out, as they play today, Thursday and Sunday
2/24 vs. Nebraska: Probably out, as they have a ton of games to theoretically make up
2/27 at #21 Wisconsin: Probably out, as we just played them and they play on Thursday and Sunday
3/6 at #4 Ohio State: Conference probably wants to keep this as the finale?

That leaves makeup games with Michigan, Michigan State and Nebraska. Unless they move back the BTT (and therefore probably the NCAAT), how are they EVER going to make these up? It seems like there should have been a longer buffer period or at least a backup plan for the dates of the postseason...

Yeah I dont think all three will be made up at this point (and that assumes no more cancelations which is hardly a given). Since we already have another game scheduled against Nebraska, I'm assuming the postponed Nebraska game is probably not getting played (which is a bummer for Big 10 title hopes). The Michigan match up would, I would hope, be a high priority for the conference, though if they want to maximize seeding I could see the Big 10 cancel it to avoid a loss that could knock Michigan out of the 1 seed or us out of the 2 seed, depending on how it plays out. That's just my tinfoil hat theory though.

Soooo apparently the #12 Michigan(10-1) women’s team is playing their first game back on Thursday against a 6-9 Purdue team but the men’s team still postponed their game with us on the same day. Yikes. BigTen needs to step in here.
Do you have a link?

Notice only one of those shows as postponed...and thank you for whoever added the Twitter link

I thought I was seeing equality being talked about for the last year? I'd like to see the women and men take an equal path here....

Butler is averaging 17 points , 3.3 rebounds and 5.2 assists, how do they come up with the ratings. Ayo's numbers are better.
Ayo is slightly less efficient at scoring than Butler, shooting worse overall and for both 2pt and 3pt FGs (but better on free throws!). He also averages slightly more turnovers and just 0.9 steals per game compared to 2.4 for Butler. Ayo's still an efficient scorer though, so he definitely deserves his spot in the top 3.

Would you rather play Michigan March 2nd or 4th?

I think that one thing he will improve on is strength. With more muscle, he's going to finish more shots going to the basket (and not just stop in the lane and shoot a fade-away), which will open his passing. And, like you're saying, just being able to shoot from range will let him fly by his defender.
