He has a Long Road to get to Battle's ability. One of the best college players I've seen. With that said , how about just come close and finish KB's job from 1989?is Melendez our modern day Kenny Battle ?
is that a fair comparison ?

Sometimes easy to forget Battle only played 2 years with UI, since the ‘89 Flying Illini were such a force. Really feel for Andre s Feliz for not getting a chance to play in the NCAA tourney.Imagine if Feliz played here for 4 years. He’d be a legend.
Based on his interview I think he's happy here! And based on BU praise of his skills he's wanted here! Plus he said in the interview next year is gonna be a big year!Hawkins concerns me a bit.
Same reason Miller has struggled. Still adjusting to the college game! How could Nimari have such a bad freshman year shooting ? He was a dead eye shooter for Morgan Park and Prolific Prep.
Wellllll I figured people on here wouldn’t suspect two freshman who play 25+ minutes a game would be transferring after the season....nor did I think I would see Kofis name brought up as a transfer option.....Geez, illini0440, look what you started. You’re an agitator is what you are.
Anything besides this available?
I like what I see here.
ProfileHere's the profile that describes him as an"athletic freak". This is back in May of last year.

When you’ve been down for so long, the worst case scenario(s) seems the most logical.Wellllll I figured people on here wouldn’t suspect two freshman who play 25+ minutes a game would be transferring after the season....nor did I think I would see Kofis name brought up as a transfer option.....
Would love to see Krutwig and Nimari in the O&B.yep. Likely will see a big and one more guard or wing. Nimari is a top target as well and I like our chances there
It IS Loyalty you know.....Wellllll I figured people on here wouldn’t suspect two freshman who play 25+ minutes a game would be transferring after the season....nor did I think I would see Kofis name brought up as a transfer option.....
ESPN rates Melendez higher than all of our prior wing targets.Melendez > David Jones? Just a question. I thought we missed a good 1 in Jones but Melendez seems just as good if not better. Jones was pulling from deep in some of his videos but Melendez better at attacking the rim.
I didn’t realize Jones reclassified to 2020.ESPN rates Melendez higher than all of our prior wing targets.
To me Nesbitt is easily the best. Jones has a much bigger body. It will come down to which one of them works harder to see who will be the better of Jones and Melendez.
Melendez has a big advantage though, he's not on putrid team like DePaul.
Who says we don’t ... I mean, they don’t.I'm so glad our basketball team doesn't subscribe to this site. (No offense Dan, you're Great).
You forgot K. GillTwo points: Logical transfers to me are BBV, Jermaine, and Hutch. Saying that because don’t see a path to playing time and that may be only because I don’t see practices.
With several 6’6” to 6’10” athletes I think of 88-89 team but then I think who even is in the same league as Battle and Anderson. Those were the definition of freak athletes and they had skills.
I would mind all but Hamlin. Lieb in particular seems like the classic case of just needing some time. Hopefully he recognizes that and sees future opportunity. And Hutch just hasn't been able to get himself on the court. Not sure if another school helps him at all. I could see BBV leaving, I just hope he doesn't. If Kofi leaves, we're gonna need big bodies. If we're talking Hamlin/Lieb/Hutcherson/BBV, I don't mind those transfers... I just don't want to see Curbelo, Miller, Frazier, Bezhanishvili, Hawkins, or Kofi playing for another team next year... If any of those guys left (and stayed in the NCAA) that'd be cause for concern.
Re: BBV, not really sure what his options look like for transfers to another college. Would anyone else take him given limited information from his HS years and the fact he’s barely played in 2 years? Also, with COVID I don’t even know if returning home is an option for him at this point.I would mind all but Hamlin. Lieb in particular seems like the classic case of just needing some time. I would love to just get a look at BBV at the 5 and Hawk at the 4. Two big guys that can stretch the floor and *theoretically* play decent defense while being mobile too.A lot physical stretch 4 is a piece we are missing this year and next.
I guess they're called this for a reason, but some on this board have a tough time understanding intangibles.I think if Damonte wants to come back, you let him come back, period. Underwood talks about how great of a locker room guy he is all the time. It would not go over well at all in my opinion if he were pushed out, especially for a hypothetical recruit. This isn’t a video game, these are guys with emotions.
That would work well offensively, but on D, having BBV give up 3-4" inches is asking for trouble. I definitely agree that he has the frame to guard shorter 5s. That said, I love having versatile pieces and really hope BBV stays and gets (and stays) healthy.I would love to just get a look at BBV at the 5 and Hawk at the 4.
