Illinois 73, Northwestern 66 Postgame

This team does lack some killer instinct at times but they sure do know how to close. Tough 4 games possibly 5 coming down the stretch. I got a feeling like we haven’t seen our best yet. BU will have them ready.

4th place in the MAC and outside Kenpom top 100... that’s a 15 seed if they’re lucky enough to win their tourney.

IDK if you go off kenpom Ohio at 106 is in the 13-14 range...they are significantly higher ranked on kenpom than the last tourneys 15 seeds and is higher ranked there than 2 of the 4 14 seeds

They are ranked the same as one of the 13 seeds as well from that year.

At any rate, our team is better now than they were then, especially defensively

Everyone knows it. Illinois has the stuff to be Elite this year, if they will only get out of their own way with the silly unforced errors.
Underwood talks about it often, and yet once again we see the 5 minute mental laps that lead to the lazy pass turnovers. And once again we let a team on the ropes right back in the game...........but good teams still find a way to win.

There’s a chance this game could have been Senior Night. We have 3 straight road games and TBD with Nebby/Michigan.
If the Nebraska game gets swapped, then we’d close the season with 5 straight road games. Hooray B1G Office incompetence!

I do, especially since he is quite good at playing the middle when they go zone.
BU just addressed this in postgame presser — it was about liking the defensive matchup with DMW. BU also just trusts DMW so much, so unless he is in foul trouble or playing poorly, he’s likely gonna get large majority of the minutes last half of second half.

It's really not as bad as some may think. It give coaches lot's of board material for practice, and the players know they have to be better.

What are you watching? That’s an honest question. I haven’t seen Adam pout once all season. Misses a shot and busts out on D. Makes a shot and busts out on D.
Watching the same game you're watching. Every time he gets called for a foul or gives up a rebound after being in terrible position he has a sour puss look on his face EVERY TIME.

NW started 3-0 in league play and now has lost 12 in a row. With NW getting a new AD, Collins should be on the hot seat soon. Collins did not get a "lifetime" contract like Fat Pitz.

Remember, the only time NW made the NCAA tournament they were swept by a John Groce coached Illini team. This was their best team EVER and they could not beat the Illini.

Have you ever tried to excel at something? He's trying to be the best. He's trying to help his team win. That look is competitiveness. Intensity. He's not pouting, he's pushing himself to be better. He knows he has to be better to get this team to the next level.

Taking the O & B glasses off for a second...

The best thing that can happen to this team is to get absolutely rocked in a game. We haven't been really out of a game all year. In the losses, less Baylor, those games have all come down to the final few minutes and they could point to a play or two where they could say...if this or that happens, we could have won.

This team has not been humbled this year. I think it's coming and I think it's going to be a good thing big picture wise. When you're ranked #5, have won six in a row, are getting national love and are being mentioned as Final Four contenders....it becomes hard to coach because 18-21 year old kids know everything. Meh, we're ok, we'll turn it on late and win. Can't do that.

I think a good humbling will hit the reset button, get this team locked in and will give Underwood a full set of eyes and a full set of ears focused on him.
