Thought it was funny Trent telling Kofi he could guard him.

So if we have clinched 2nd place in the Big Ten Tourney, why play Ayo this week? He could use this week and most of next week to heal and avoid further injury. (Good chance Ayo might not like that, but it is an option.) It would, also, give our Ayo-less team a time to further mesh together.

And the NCAA has supposedly said they take into account players missing games. So if we are without Ayo for both games and lose both they would take that into consideration on seeding.

It is a must that Kofi stays out of foul trouble this game. Along with the players that have stepped up recently we really need a solid game from Giorgi. Although he hasn't gotten a ton of minutes obviously I think if he could be an x factor that would be huge.

Watched it twice to be sure, but no Ayo in those clips. Unless that is some very selective editing, Ayo is not practicing.
I heard a rumor that Ayo is dealing with another injury on top of the broken nose? Anyone else hear that?

It would really help to get Dickinson in foul trouble. Are you listening Kofi and Belo?

I completely agree. Discounting the obvious benefits of getting Ayo more rest, I don't really see the upside in playing him this week. We are basically locked in as a # 2 seed even if we lose both without Ayo. Even if miraculously Ayo plays and we win one or sweep, a loss to either or Iowa in the B10 tourney likely drops us back down the #2.

There is also a good chance we play Michigan/Ohio State again not only in the B10 tourney, but possibly Final Four. Not playing Ayo in a basically meaningless regular season game will give them less of a scout against our full strength team in a hypothetical future matchup.

tl/dr: We can basically play this week with house money while Ayo rests up.

Please don't remind me. 32 years ago standing in the middle of Gully's watching that seems like yesterday. A recurring nightmare after we crushed them twice in the BT that season.
Weird to think back, I was in an apartment next to Gully's watching that game... still crushing, even more than NC in 2005. Still remember being at Assembly Hall for the post tourney celebration. Still think it was the best team in ILLINI history.

Well my decision was mainly based off of out of state tuition but now you have me rethinking my life choices. I promise I will infiltrate the basketball team and become team manager and leak info on Juwan’s game plan and recruiting strategies.

The Orange and Blue Kool Aid that runs through my veins will never die!!
I have concerns for you becoming a future Michigan fan.

I grew up in Illinois as a die hard Michigan State fan. My parents were from Michigan and a couple generations of both families went to Michigan State.

I went to UIUC, and honestly Michigan State became an afterthought the day I stepped on campus.

Good point. I'm actually more concerned lblesy will leak privileged Loyalty information to Michigan. Dan should probably just ban him now

I think this game comes down to Illinois defending Isaiah Liver and Wagner. At 6'7 and 6'9 Illinois really needs to have someone other than Williams guard them. So I hope Giorgi and Grandison have great games.

Wagner is a good player and a ton of skillset, but I think Monte' is better off guarding him with his physical presence as I think that is one thing that can phase Wagner. Livers I don't know who to match up with on him.

I'm really hoping BU has some tricks up his sleeve for this one. He's going to have to get creative dealing with their length.

It's a very interesting matchup. We have the 2 best players on the court (if Ayo plays), but they have a lot of length and almost everyone on their team contributes.

Trent (talking to a smiling BU about guarding Teddy Allen, who scored 41 against PSU the game before): "He won't get 41 out on me, Coach. Lock up."

Trent kept his word.

Last Thursday, Teddy Allen had one of his worst games of the year. Nice job, Trent.
Not the first example and probably not the last. Best defender we've had in a long while. He and DW will be missed more than most probably realize.

We have only had 3 All BIG defensive players....Chester Frazier (3 separate times), Randle and Egwu. Trent should be the 4th. Also he gets my vote for most loyal. He could have left at the coaching change (he was a Groce commit) and then after the NW game his Freshman year. Whitman played a key role both times in keeping him on board.
