I take scant consolation in the fact that over the ensuing 20 years in the NCAA Tourney Billy Packer would occasionally invoke that team as the best never to win it all.
How can ya` not love Billy Packer and that voice on live color play-by-play ? ;)

If I recall right, our only losses that year were to teams that we beat in other games that year: nobody could claim a winning record against us. Not many teams finish the year that way, and not sure if that rare group includes any other teams that aren't flying a natty banner.

I recall he rubbed many people the wrong way. I'm with you, however: really enjoyed his color commentary. Interesting guy. Played and knew the game inside out, and has been an astute businessman since leaving Wake (the WSJ had an article about the latter years ago that I recall.)

Yea. That year brings back a ton of memories. That was the year I graduated. Me and my mom had season tickets. We went to the indy tournament games. My mom was a rebounder and went to all the tournament games that year. What a disappointment to lose to of all schools UM??? Ouch. Bo's [bs] speech after they fired the coach Frieder for taking the UA job. And put in Fisher for the tournament. So much to hate. smh

The 90-91 Running Rebels sticks out in my mind as another great team that should've won it. What a team that was. Of course they won the year before and should have gone back to back.

I just recall us losing at least two or three after that fabulous GT game when Kendall was injured. Then we adjusted to his absence and we rolled. I think the ones we lost in conference we split the season with each opponent.

Does anyone recall how long Kendall was out that season?

Not 100% sure but he missed 12 games that year.

Agree 100% , undefeated season , until the Duke squeezed out the victory in the NCAA tourney against them.Great squad (legondary) in their own rights no doubt .

This one’s been circled on the calendar for a while for me. My brother goes to Michigan and is a huge wolverine fan, and I just got accepted and committed to go there as well. But I’ve been a die-hard Illini fan my whole life so it’s tough to decide who to root for.

Oh wait, no it’s not.

MUCK FICHIGAN!!!!!

So, everyone is just gonna breeze by this??

Wtf? I have so many questions!!

Did you lose a bet?
Have you been kidnapped and forced to choose scUM?
Do you draw the Block I on your brothers face when he passes out drunk?
Do your parents refuse to pay out of state tuition for Illinois?
Will you use your access and commit to helping the Krush infiltrate the most intimate crevices of the scUM campus in order to commit heinous acts of chicanery, tomfoolery, and Orange clad nonsense?
Will you pledge to wear your orange Muck Fichigan shirt no less than 3 times per semester?
Did you cry when you got accepted to scUM?
Will you cry on your first day on the scUM campus?
Was there a gun pointed at you when you chose scUM?
Is there a gun pointed at you now?
What‘s your take on Dogecoin?

Please don't remind me. 32 years ago standing in the middle of Gully's watching that seems like yesterday. A recurring nightmare after we crushed them twice in the BT that season.
It was 15th birthday. One the worst nights ever. I destroyed the illini shrine in my room that night. Threw my dope !!! starter jacket in the trash.
Shortly after UI dropped mens swimming and my dream of competing for my love died. Still hurts. Got my first dual meet win against mizzou my freshman year. That helped.

Well my decision was mainly based off of out of state tuition but now you have me rethinking my life choices. I promise I will infiltrate the basketball team and become team manager and leak info on Juwan’s game plan and recruiting strategies.

The Orange and Blue Kool Aid that runs through my veins will never die!!
