If you do a round robin with 14 teams, the SOS will be the inverse of their finishes. The difference in the top teams schedule and the last teams schedule is that the top team got to play the #14, while the #14 had to play the #1. So unfair!
True, but the B1G schedule is hardly a round robin. It used to be - in the good old days.

...

Since we finished second, shouldn’t our SOS be 13 then?

If anyone is curious how impressive our last five have been, to put it in current march madness seeding terminology (and not even taking into account the fact that three were on the road):

First round: Beat 9 seed Rutgers
Second round: Beat 6 seed Wisconsin
Sweet sixteen: Beat 2 seed OSU
Elite eight: Beat 2 seed Iowa
Final four: Beat 1 seed Michigan
Championship game: Against 2 seed OSU (I know its a repeat, just hypothetical).

This is more difficult than any available path in the NCAA tourney!

7 MORE LETS GO!

Happy Selection Sunday! I can't think of a fan base that deserves this day more. March 17, 2013...brackets come out and Illinois is a No. 7 seed vs No. 10 Colorado in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Who would have guessed, even in your worst thoughts, it would be 2,922 days until we get to see the Illini's name pop back up on the CBS show?

But the day has FINALLY arrived, with a team playing better right now than probably any of us could have imagined .... Let's go!!!

Jerry Palm now has us as the 3rd overall seed. That's regardless of today's results.

I'm good with that particularly if this is how the match ups really work out.

Good to see!

Also looks like an added benefit of beating Iowa yesterday was dropping the Hawkeyes behind Ohio State and into a matchup as the 2 seed in Gonzaga's region. I like that. I can root for most Big Ten teams in the tourney but not Iowa, and this year I'm also going to struggle to pull for Izzo and Michigan.

It almost doesn’t matter if we’re the #2 or #3 overall seed because Baylor will get the Big Ten teams in the 2 and 4 lines regardless. But it’s nice to be ahead of Michigan to get potentially a little better path

if be surprised if Oklahoma State stays on the 2 line and Palm is saying they ahead of Alabama- which would be really surprising

I was at the colorado and miami (barf) games. Seems like a lifetime ago. Unbelievable it goes from that to a 1 seed.

Palm has Alabama at 7 and Oklahoma State at 8.

Brian Bennett over at The Athletic still has Houston as the 4th 2 seed. Lunardi also has Houston as the 2 seed with us.

Tonight should be fun!

I don’t want OkSt either . the big non stop story line would be Brad leaving there after one year for our job .

pass

besides , my son is an OkSt grad . he loves them and the Illini . i don’t want him conflicted until the NC game !!

It's unlikely we get Alabama at this point. I think it's going to come down to Houston and Oklahoma State.

Oklahoma State is 30th on KenPom, which would be the lowest ranking for a 2 seed, by far, in the 20 years he has been doing it.

Then he did his bracket wrong if he had us as #3 overall- Okla St should be in our bracket not Alabama

Well, to be fair, that was what was said on CBS yesterday. He could have changed his mind since then because his bracket definitely shows what you said.

It seems like forever since Illinois has gotten "the love", so really cool to see us hitting front pages again. Just feels, I don't know, right.

Awesome stuff. Side note: I used to use ESPN more, but it seems like they won't even put Illinois on a headline story. I assume their financial ties to the SEC and ACC mean they dump or bury a lot of stories that are newsworthy.
