Ty ty reached out to Underwood sometime recently and inquired if they had room to take a friend along with him.. Hypothetically obviously.

No clue who it is but the assumption is it's a pretty good forward. But that's just the assumption.
Check that. we're going to need 23 scholarships.

Top guys at his school are:

Glenn Taylor Jr - SF, Class of 2021 #159 overall
Sadraque Nganga - PF, Class of 2022 #17 overall

Nganga is an NBA player. One of the more impressive set of highlights that I've seen in quite a while.

If Kofi comes back..... we also return GB, Miller, Curbelo, Grandison, Hawkins, and BBV. Add Goode to the mix. Possibly Hutch returns. Thats a top five team right there. If DMFW and Trent come back.... Could enter the season at #1 before adding any other possible recruits..

Frazier and DW possibly returning does not take up scholarship spots, but it certainly affects who may want to come here. Tate said again today he is hearing they are both “considering” returning. Nothing’s set in stone either way and I’d love to have them back, but it does make recruiting a bit tougher not knowing.
I have heard that trent most likely will be back.

Makes no sense for any of the seniors to be back... but we will see.
To put it simply. If we are planning to be more veteran-led next year to go for two championships in a row (on cloud 9 rn), the TF and DMW need to stay. If Illinois is planning to be dominant for years to come, then UI needs those scholies open for NB, Podz, Boakye, TyTy, etc. It's up the BU, but I'd choose the future.

Yeah, makes no sense to get a master's degree from Illinois and a chance to possibly play for the national championship with your buddies...(again?)

Much better to skip that and go make some money in Khazakhstan asap.

It's not up to Underwood.

If we make the final four, and I've got my degree, I'm saying, or perhaps singing, thanks for the memories, and going to get paid for my services.

If we get bounced in one of the next two games, then I could have a bad taste in my mouth and want to come back and make amends. However, getting paid for my work and not doing homework would still sound real good.

You can have both. 5th year scholarships given due to Covid... do not count against the total number of scholarships next year. You can fill your scholarship total with returning players and recruits, then add as many scholarships as you need for seniors wanting to return for an extra year. The returning seniors could, of course, increase competition for playing time..... and lead some recruits to rethink commitments, or even for some regular returning players to consider transferring.

Those two schollies cannot be re-used. If Trent and Damonte return, those are bonus schollies. If they don't, the schollies do not exist.

If you substitute minutes for schollies, you have made your argument.

As much as I think Trent wants to play in front of the fans, I believe he wants to leave with Damonte and Ayo. I'm not sure at what level and what country he will play at. Next year is still up in the air for foriegn leagues.

Damonte/Frazier don't count against the number next year because of covid.

Frankly the bigger concern would be how bad some of these freshman want to play next year.. Especially with the frequency of transfers now.

For these guys that don't lose their chance due to covid I think it's sort of cheap to come back. For the guys that do (like VCU) I could see why VCU seniors would come back.

I didn't like how Andre Feliz's career ended.
