If I'm a player considering a transfer but only have a few destinations in mind, I'd definitely have my "camp" in touch with those teams before jumping through the portal. No sense dealing with drama on your current team if there's a good chance you'd end up staying put. If the shortlisted destination teams seem like a mutual fit then I'd go for the portal. Hopefully that's what's going on here but I'm sure there's some flirting going on.

The MASSIVE transfer news is that none of them will be announcing plans to transfer to Illinois despite our prayers and predictions.

I loved Ramey. But he isn't really a fit. He's going to want the ball in his hands and 30+ minutes. That won't happen here, at least to the degree he'll want. Sub 40% shooter, not good.
if we miss on NB and TyTy I could see him being an Ayo plug-n-play

Assuming Kofi leaves, we need a big who can defend, and based on the Boakye decision that player needs to come from the transfer portal. Need a backup pg as well.

I think one of Hutch and Hawkins surprises next year and takes Grandison’s spot in the lineup.

Belo, Ace, (guard to be named), Hutch/Hawkins, (big to be named) is how I think this plays out. Hope I’m wrong and Kofi stays.

We haven't reached out to any players not in the portal, one has reached out to us on his own though and it isn't EJ.
I'm guessing it's someone not really mentioned in this thread. Guessing it was a high end recruit who had a rough year and/or coaching change.

I can't say much with the kids name not being in the portal.
During the B1G tourney, Ayo and Garza's family were sitting together and the two fathers talking. I think Garza needs another year to fine tune NBA skills, and will take advantage of the COVID year. But Iowa is losing much of the supporting cast. Therefore, the families agreed it would be best for both Ayo and Garza to come back, with Garza sliding into the four spot at Illinois with Kofi at the five and Grandison moving to the three. That's it, isn't it? Ayo staying and Garza transferring in ?

If Grandison is a bench player for Illinois next year we will have a really good team. I like how Grandison plays and his experience will be needed next year
