I’d guess SEC.

If, as has been proposed, mom is running the show to maximize his recruitment for their family’s benefit I can’t be mad about that. Can’t be mad about the SEC schools playing along either.

But I feel like if this NIL thing ever comes to pass, opportunities will be better for basketball players at basketball schools, as opposed to football schools. There’s probably 10x-20x more Illini fans than Bama/Auburn fans who know who Burnett is right now.

If we can stay good and start chipping away at bigger pieces of relevancy in Chicago, the market gets bigger for NIL opportunities for these kids. Right now the SEC schools have the elite bag man games going, so good for them.

Pros: He's a great 3 pt shooter
Cons: We are in desperate need of 3 pt shooter

That he is. But he brings a lot more than a 3 pt shot. Scorer just as much as a shooter. Think Jimmy McBuckets. How that'll translate remains to be seen. But he has pretty good athleticism, length, handle and doesn't seem like a kid who wants to only stay out at the arc and let fly. Some question marks, for sure, but a lot of intrigue too. Kid has skills.

The parents of several top transfers have been calling Illinois staff to check in with their kids coming to Illinois. Wait a while...things will be picking up soon...in a BIG way!
And thank goodness, Coach is not accepting the calls from Mr & Mrs Smith.

Jimmy McBuckets had my head spinning a little, at first I read it like Jimmer Fredette, then Jimmy "Buckets" Butler, then I finally realized you probably mean Dougy McBuckets one of the best college basketball players of the 2000s and Chicago Bulls legend.

Gonna be interesting to watch how transfers are intertwined with prep recruits, in terms of when guys announce, who is prioritized ,etc. I don't see Podz as an immediate impact guy. I think Goode, and Melendez, due to their length, would be higher on the list. I don't see any freshman as immediate starters, outside of probably TyTy, and even that depends on what transfers are brought in.

Thanks for helping me out with all the information!!! Anyone remember Brad Melton? I think I spelled name correctly. Just my very limited thoughts and intelligence on players and the recruiting process. Seems like a similar player. Why can I remember things from more than10 years ago better than now? Uh oh, think I answered my question.

haha no, tyty is an automatic starter if he comes here. Top 15 player in the class imo.

Brett Melton

Kruger told his staff to find the best shooter in the nation, and he just happened to be found in Mahomet.

I think Podz is considered much better than Brett, but the comparison had entered my mind as people kept talking about his shooting. Podz a much better ball handler and better at scoring. Off the dribble.

Nice recall. Melton was a one trick pony for us. Podz is a bit longer and, as you said, his offensive game is much more versatile. More athletic too.
