Some people on Reddit were saying it has a lot to do with family drama. They didnā€™t like the role he was put in. And had a huge issue when Ayoā€™s family got more tickets to the tournament.
Very true statement. Millerā€™s mom didnā€™t want him to play with Ayo from the get go!!!

I don't buy the 'be the man next year' stuff. If you're on a good team, guess what there are other good players not just you. Gotta be something else.
Exactly. Leadership is assumed, not assigned. This team has room for excellent role players. But if he wants to be the leader, you donā€™t just go to a team without a better option and get anointed leader. You have to take that role, not wait for it to be given to you. And if you want a shot at the NBA, it is best you take it at a program like Illinois than a program like Bradley. Is it harder? Yes, and thatā€™s the point.

Yeah...really. I'm the same guy who considers Nunn an Illini forever. No sour grapes here...forgive and be forgiven.

I believe if you wear Orange and Blue and work your tail off for the "I", I believe you earn the right right to be "Illini forever" whether its 1 or 4 years.

AM has his own reasons for trying something new,...I'm certainly not going to hold a grudge against a teenager who may not recognize how good he had it until later in life. I expect that may be the case here, but still wish him the best and future success wherever he lands.
I see your point, however, HE doesn't consider himself to be an Illini forever! HE'S leaving us!

There is a middle ground between "hold a grudge forever" and "Illini forever". Would your view change if that were your daughter or family member he assaulted? Forgive, yes, but Illini forever?

No grudge here, but I would not consider someone who is here for one year to be an Illini forever. If their mindset is to be somewhere else for multiple years - that is their school, not here. He was a starter, not sitting the bench with no minutes. We did not fail him, he's running away from the team. Not an Illini forever.

Sorry I posted my thoughts...teenagers and young adults dont always make best (or their own) decisions. No doubt I will feel stronger about a "Damonte" or "Abrams" than I would a TJL or AM (if he doesn't withdraw from portal...which is a possibility).

To cap this off....doesnt matter what fans feel, if 10 yrs from now AM decides his best times were the team and locker room celebrations in '21 and he chooses to call him self an Illini then, I'm all for it. He was on the team and grinded to be here....it really is his choice, not ours.

I think this may be new norm with transfers and early exits going wild....kids may lose their school identities.
I don't think there is any doubt this is not good for College ball. I am curious as to 'why' in this case. Could he have not had PG time next year? With Ayo and TF leaving - who is going to take point with AC needs rest or is foul trouble? Pretty sure Tyler is gone.

As for 10 years from now, he can claim all he wants but decisions have consequences and kids/parents/people have to realize that. If his decision is to leave the team after one year when he was a starter and IMO got a lot of opportunity, he's purposely giving up the right to be an Illini forever. Can't have it both ways. No grudge or hard feelings, just reality. You leave your team after one year, you've left - they are no longer your team or school - no participation trophies.

We'll just have to agree to disagree on this.

I agree! And Ayo and Trent played off each other the same way! This was gonna be Adam Miller's and Andre Curbelo's year to run the team and dominate! And he played well in the Loyola game!
I thought he was one of the few options that seemed to work against Loyola. I yelled at the screen he got taken off the court near the end, and can't help wonder if that was a final straw for him (or his advisors).

I enjoyed watching Miller this year on the squad. I think he will go on to become a very good college player wherever he goes. I can see him becoming a sniper at his next stop. Loved his lefty form, and expected it to always drop.

His pro prospects are shaky at best (in my ignorant opinion) due to his size. Doesn't have the quickness or facilitating abilities of a PG, and I'm not sure I ever see that in his game. Not a lot of wiggle there. Average athlete for his size.

Quite frankly, Curbelo was the star freshman and will be given the keys next year. Best of luck to Adam though! The portal giveth and the portal taketh. I have a feeling we will be happy enough with who is starting at guard beginning of the year.

Was traveling yesterday and just found out. I'm shocked but not shocked. Like, I knew we'd get "portaled", I just didn't think it'd be Adam Miller.

While he was certainly improving on D, and had a high upside, we should be able to replace his production fairly easy with one of the 1,000+ players available.

Call me a sucker, but I have faith in Brad & crew to navigate this wild landscape we find ourselves in, and come out on the other side with a winning roster, ready to hit the ground running next year.

Itā€™s disappointing and surprising but as has been stated this is the new normal. Get used to it. I thought AM and AC were the only two locks that werenā€™t a transfer risk. I guess this goes to show there is no such thing. Hope the staff can land a few of these guys we are in on. Been a tough 13 days with more transfer news coming no doubt.

Ho do you coach in the world of college sports now ???? You have to recruit the kids on your roster each day and how do you plan for the future when kids can just get up and leave. I know the argument that coaches can leave, but at least then usually there is a financial payoff that coaches have to do. Now these kids just up and leave and schools loose out big time. Unfortunately our society has created this. Any adversity they run. Look how many of these kids attend multiple high schools and play on multiple AAU teams. It is so darn hard to coach in this environment. He stated all year. Crazy and frustrating.

Adam loves Illinois and didn't want to leave but ultimately his Mom is forcing him to. Honestly can't make this stuff up.

Mad about the way he was used/not used and saw the writing on the wall that he won't make it to the league in 1-2 years with how ball dominant Curbelo will be. They think Adam needed the ball in his hands more as an undersized NBA guard..not many 6'3" shooting/combo guards going in the first round.

Also - his Mom has been a pain in the Staff's !!! for at least the past month. Adam has been the buffer to calm her down and smooth it over.

Simply business decision by his handlers.

I think AMā€™s decision was likely made during the last 10 games of the season including the BTT. ACā€˜s emergence took away key minutes in many games, most noteworthy the OSU game in Indy. AM only played 15 mins in that game and 7 Illini played more minutes than him. At the end of games at the end of the season except for Loyola game it was typically Curbelo, Ayo, Trent, DW, and Kofi with Miller on the bench. I donā€™t think that sat well with AM and I also think he sees he wonā€™t have the ball in his hands to show that he could play PG in the future which will be something he will need to show if he wants to go to NBA as a 6ā€™3ā€ player.

Sounds like yet another parent consumed by the the meal ticket dream. Ugh.

Thanks for the info.

If AM truly thinks he's going to be a pg in the NBA then I guess all that can be said is good luck...both to him and to the team that picks him up. I didn't see any reason to think he'd be a good college pg, much less NBA caliber. I'd think his best path to the league would be maximizing his value as a scoring guard, with good defense as a plus, but that's just me.

i'm not an expert on anyone's chances of making the NBA, but i have watched a lot of BB , both college and NBA in my lifetime, and my humble opinion of AM is great shooter when open, but low chance of success driving the rim....He was not proficient in college doing it in the one season here was here and the NBA is a whole different level...

Dreams and goals should be realistic and attainable.........AM really needs to work on his handles and driving the rim, otherwise I see a bright future for him overseas, at best.....Not knocking him now since he's leaving, as that was my humble opinion before the news broke .......

Maybe Mark's mom should look how Mark Smith's transfer worked out for him. Mark should have stayed at U of I. And Adam's mom will realize this was not well thought out.
