A lot of good recruiters out there. Roger Powell, Dee Brown just to name a couple. Brad has been in the business long enough to know a bunch of them.
Powell would definitely help ease the blow but I highly highly doubt we bring back Dee.

We need to at least secure Chin for the upcoming season. Losing them both both would be a huge blow this late in the coaching hire cycle.

The one who has an issue with playing the game isn’t Brad. And that’s the problem.
I don’t doubt that at all, but it seems so odd to spend so much on facilities and State Farm center then not be willing to go all in to get the best team on the court, like all other top schools, including Duke, UNC, Texas, etc that are also excellent universities.

Yeah, that's the AD's job. And the HC and assistants have their job, part of which is doing what they do while maintaining plausible deniability so as not to embarrass the "bosses." Allegedly, of course. Brad will figure this out.

Honest question here because I genuinely have no clue. Who has Roger been responsible for getting to Gonzaga? Maybe he is a fantastic recruiter, I do not know. But it seems that most great, big time recruiters are pretty much the polar opposite of a guy like Roger Powell. Nothing against Roger at all, he is a great person and great Illini by all accounts. But I do not see him as a replacement for a guy like OA.
I was under the impression that the new Arizona coach was the heartbeat behind most top recruits at Gonzaga. I could be wrong on that.

College Basketball is a rough business. So much turnover with players and coaches. Principles like loyalty and commitment mean absolutely nothing. Basically begging teenagers and parents to come play for you. Not a profession I would desire. The money isn't worth it.

Can't blame OA. Clearly he's a coveted assistant coach. We all know that. I think BU will get a good assistant, but let's not fool ourselves both chin and OA have proven themselves to be top shelf assistants. Almost any replacement is going to be a downgrade.

And so help me if I have to read 30 freaking pages of people saying we should bring on _______________ former illinois player as an assistant who has zero qualifications, I'm going to lose my mind. Rev is the only one remotely qualified to be one of our assistants.

Look out for my upcoming YouTube series “Nothing But ‘Paign: The Life of Illini Basketball Fans” coming out before next season. 😢

In my lifetime....

90% "agony of defeat"

10% "thrill of the victory"

Easily the most disappointing ROI as a sports fan. 😅

Brad Underwood worked for Frank Martin, and hired Orlando Antigua and Lamont Evans, so don't pretend that he doesn't know how this game is played. He will find replacements who know how the game is played.
I agree. Head Coaches have a short list of potential replacements. I cannot believe Cal would go after Chin. We all knew OA was here for a short time as he is regarded as one of the best recruiters in College BBall.

If I recall Underwood did pretty well at Ok.St. without Chin and OA. Of course this is a dagger but we will still get players and those players will get coached up! Let's wait and see who coach brings on board before we get too worried.
