No. That same guy said it was a done deal last week too. Do I still think they end up going? Yes(just my opinion). But they are both on vacation and don’t want any news breaking while they are on vacation.
Tbh, the fact that it hasn't been final yet speaks volumes about Illinois. There can't be many instances where being an assistant coach at Illinois is considered on par with Kentucky. Unless said coach has a deep connection to Illinois, or is a HC in waiting, 99 out of 100 ACs would choose Kentucky if the money is relatively close. Gotta hand JW and BU at least some props for that.

Bill self was on vacation right before he left.

I would say we have about a 65/35 chance to retain them, which is a lot better than where it was a week ago.

So how soon do we hear about some players reopening their recruitment? In the Coaching Carousel thread, it seems pretty clear Antigua and Chin are gone. I know others here have alluded to the idea that our '22 commits might get shaky if that happens. Same goes for Payne. And I'm guessing Kofi is as good as gone, too. Thoughts?
I don't know where you got the idea that they are gone, I actually think we have a very good chance as of right now

That tweet by the UK guy saying UK easily matched whatever offer is going to send a bunch of people spiraling. Trying to resist that myself. ;)

This friction story makes no sense. OA and CC are being offered 2-3x raises by frickin Kentucky, whom OA has a good history with. Why in the world would coming back to Illinois even be an option they'd consider if there actually is some sort of conflict? It makes zero sense. Kentucky will give you more money, easier recruiting, more talented roster, higher prestige, etc. If anything, this seems like a "let's see how much we could actually squeeze out of Illinois" situation. If I'm JW and BU, I call their bluff. They either want to return or want to leave. Changing the 3rd assistant isn't going be be the deciding factor.

Edit: This kinda seems like a narrative builder. "We offered to make this staff the highest paid staff in the country. Ultimately, they made personal decisions to leave..."

Remind me not to hire you for negotiations on my behalf.

That's not really how negotiations work. I don't see Kentucky saying "They would have accepted our first offer if they wanted to be here. That didn’t happen so let’s move on and find some better assistants."
I kind of agree with this but I never said anything about accepting the first offer, I mentioned the counteroffers. I see your point though but we really don’t know if this is over or not yet right? For all we know they could’ve had their mind made up on this already but we don’t know that. That’s the kicker in all of this.

No one comes to us FOR Underwood. Not saying he doesn't play a role in the process, but zero recruits are calling up U of I because they want to come play for Underwood.

OA & Chin develop and groom our guys for the next level. *OA for Bigs and Chin for Guards

Underwood does no outbound recruiting. He is there once there is interest to talk about where the kids fit in and how he plans to use them. Development plans are all from OA/Chin.

Gentry is considered a game time X's and O's guy and doesn't do much recruiting or developing.

High octane recruits 100% care if OA/Chin are here. They want to know their development and promises made during the process will be upheld.
So do K, Self, others “outbound recruit”?

I kind of agree and disagree with this. First, I never said anything about accepting the first offer, I mentioned the counteroffers. Second, the only thing we do know is that there on vacation but we don’t know if they have made up there mind yet? It’s a really strange time to go on vacation time when all of this stuff is being discussed and taking place.
It's interesting how many assumptions people make about a situation we have very limited insight into.

I have no idea how negotiations work for the coaching occupation, but someone going on vacation during a negotiation sounds like someone who trusts their agent to get it done. You can spin it multiple ways.

Also, what proof do we have that they're on vacation besides hearsay and reporters? Mind you, these same "reporters" have cited Antigua's twitter location, which means nothing.

I hope BU is on the phone to possible asst. coaches. Need to keep the players we have and hope to have!

No one in the country has the connections that OA has.
Can't argue that. He may be the best recruiter in the country. I really hope we don't lose him. Too much momentum going with Storr and Bass blowing up. They do seem 1 step ahead of the pack on the studs outside of the obvious players(top 10).

How do you even measure an offer being "easily matched
This assumes that person has an intimate knowledge of the UK-side of things (which isn't a safe assumption at all), but that would be a way of indicating there's still plenty of runway left on their side. In other words, UK is far from pulling out of these negotiations.

Yeah, it sounds like we're talking about a lot of money right now. But it is kind of crazy to suggest just giving up on keeping OA and Chin at this point. Anyone UK wants this badly we should want to keep just as badly. Also, if you are convinced we have no shot in the end to retain them, there is almost no downside to staying in these negotiations. We'll never pay any of the money we're offering and this buys us more time to work out a backup plan before cr*p hits the fan for us.

Gotta love how the phrasing "easily matched" just gets thrown in there.
Most arrogant fan base I have ever seen - and I lived the Bobby Knight years in Indiana and experienced the LSU football fans in New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl. I went to an Illinois NCAA tourney game in Indy and the following game was UK vs. some patsy. UK was up 20+ and every "fan" was screaming at the refs about every little play and taunting the few fans of the smaller school. Total jerks, total arrogance.
