CY Young, Chester, Alexander as assistants along with Irvin as special assistant is what I am hearing...
If it comes to fruition, how should we feel about this staff? I generally feel good about Chester and Alexander, but I don't know much about Young. How close of an OA replacement will Young be? A part of me was hoping we could snag an associate coach from another program, but I guess that's not going to happen.

As an aside, I was poking around the FSU coaching pages and saw a reference to coachstat.net. Absolutely no clue what their methodology is, but our very own BU clocks in at #5 on their "Top Relationship Rebuilders" list. If that's to be believed, BU should be very good at assembling and meshing a new staff in a short amount of time. Fingers crossed.

I believe the only way Tre can enroll with Bergeron on staff is if he is in one of the three assistant spots.
Ok. I'll take your word for it. Just seems like more gray area with this one, as compared to say Hawthorne and ESL or Porter and Mizzou. Both Tre and Bergeron already have college experience so it's not simply hiring his HS coach. He's not his father, so that differentiates it from Porter. I have no idea what the official rule is, so I assume big programs are figuring out if there's a way to get Tre without burning a valuable assistant spot for Bergeron.

Well, if you put any stock in his recruiting page on 247, then CY Young seems like a pretty nice get (assuming it actually happens). There are a few 5-stars in there. Seems like it's likely missing a bunch of recruits in there, too, considering how long he's been a coach.

Granted Charlton has been at FSU longer but that list is better than OA's list at Illinois. 5 top 50 recruits.

CY Young would be a VG get, IMO. And our staff would be arguably better than its predecessor.

Surprised that somehow the UI has not put a stop to Swami. He is an uncredentialed media guy who is calling/communicating with recruits direct and then in some instances posting incorrect info. Strange but hey the guy has a following, sort of like Basketball Scoop.

It's encouraging that he has reeled in a few 5 star recruits to a school that is not a blue blood. Clearly OA is a hell of a recruiter and he did a great job for us, but that's not something he ever did. Having said that, I'd rather have a guy consistently reel in 4 star recruits year after year than an occasional 5 star guy but be inconsistent outside of that, and OA was doing the former very well here.

Agreed, but 5 top 50 recruits is impressive.

CY Young's recruiting history is probably the best of any candidate mentioned, including Huss.
I don't know anything about his coaching, but his recruiting history is impressive. Sounds like a good complement to Frasier.

Assuming we lose Gentry, not super excited about promoting from within.

Canadian, eh?

Neither was I when I first heard about it (~3 weeks ago). But now that I've done some due diligence, I'm very comfortable with elevating Alexander. In fact, am expecting Alexander to be an upgrade.

But, we did?

I know there was a lot of hope on the Huss situation but Cy is a better get. Outside of possibly Kimari Young he is the best name that has been floated. This would be arguably a better staff than the one that left.

Also on the Alexander front they seem to be playing chess instead of checkers. They don't want to announce him because then there wouldn't technically be an opening to hire into for someone like Young. No idea why the Gentry thing is dragging out unless Gonzaga doesn't have him as their #1 option. Basically zero chance Underwood moves on from Gentry without him going to another team considering their history.

He was able to do that because the local grocery store carries crab legs.

Will be a moot point if Young is in fact the 3rd guy, but Hendrickson seemed impressed with the list of candidates he was getting calls from regarding the IL assistant positions.
