Wasn't he the 'defensive coordinator' for game planning?

He did a wonderful job against Loyola.

So, where is the list of NBA assistants? If all that Gif energy had been properly placed in creating a list of active NBA assistants, we'd be far ahead in our speculative game.

Not sure if this is a joke or not, but his first 2 years at Illinois were some of the worst defensively. That all changed when Gentry came on board. Chin's primary responsibilty was pre game scouting. Like OP mentioned "he did a wonderful job" vs Loyola. Chin is and alway will be known as a bag man. Coaching not so much.

To those in the know, Chin was behind OA and Gentry with regards to coaching acumen.

Cal must be growing too old. Offering Chin and letting the Zags snare Gentry!! Amazing

So, now the good news Alexander > Gentry and Frazier > Chin

We have the easy part covered

Us hiring an assistant from the NBA always made a heck of a lot more sense than us taking two months just to grab some random dude from Butler with an underwhelming recruiting history. RIP to that dude whose first and only post was stating our pick was Omar Lowry. We hardly knew you.

Well I vote for Ham Slamwich, even if just to have a coach with a cool nickname. Not likely though as he probably has a solid NBA future even if Budenholzer gets canned.

The difference is that teams are going for the championship. bowl win or no bowl win, it's not a huge deal. An NBA championship is.

I'd be curious to know how many AC football coaches left teams in the BCS championship field.

Lane Kiffin left Alabama between the semifinals and the finals of the BCS Championship.

And for everyone freaking out, Jerrance left KU for Texas two weeks before OA and Chin left for Kentucky and his replacement still hasn't been named.

It seems a bit arrogant to think at this point we would be doing Brian Randle a favor by hiring him. His trajectory is climbing fast in NBA circles and at this rate he is going to have plenty of blue sky to sell if he even would consider coaching in college. And as far as recruiting is concerned he would have more of a presence and respectability then most AC's when talking to a recruit and his parents because of his athletic accomplishments, his NBA coaching accomplishments and the fact that he was an outstanding student while he was here! Also he will be inducted later this year into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame 2021 class.
