He knew the picket fence play thoughView attachment 10410
Wish I had a son next to me coaching instead of this smelly old drunk fool.......
yeah, he did....he also knew how to upchuck from the cheap seats.....He knew the picket fence play though
That's some fineyeah, he did....he also knew how to upchuck from the cheap seats.....
This right here.Did Lovie's son attend the University of Illinois? Did Lovie's son play college ball at Illinois? Was Lovie's son respected as a teammate by other players at Illinois? Was Tyler hired for an assistant coaching job? I think you're stretching quite a bit to say that these two situations would remind you of one another.
I could get in a lot of trouble with Dan if I let my imagination run wild with this theme.....But thanks for the shout -out.......That's some fine
Yeah, 100. If this was for 3rd assistant, big deal but this is to me a good promotion. TU has been at e different programs and is a smart basketball mind. Good spot for entry level.Tyler is a pretty smart basketball mind. Everyone here needs to take a chill. Itās a pretty entry level position. No where near Miles Smith being hired.
One might say elite.Tyler is a pretty smart basketball mind.
That kids recovery is epic! He looks like an Olympic gymnast getting ready to grab the uneven parallel bars!!!!
Funny I remember a lot of you being excited hearing the current players were happy and enjoying Tyler Underwood being around the team still.
Some people just love to hate when itās convenient.
Zach Griffith disagrees with you.He did not take playing opportunities away from others.
..
Actually, you're pointing out one of the biggest problems with nepotism. If he sucks, Dad will have to fire him and that ain't easy.Give the kid a chance. If he sucks it will show. If he hits a homerun it will be a blessing. He certainly knows his dad's mind.
While it's true that Lou never hired his own kids he did hire his nephew (Mark Coomes). Not hardly. Keep what up? I cannot remember Lou Henson's kid coaching here, or Bill Self's, why do people on here just look to the negative on everything? Lovie hiring his kid and we wont count Cubit as that fiasco was a joke has nothing to do with this. TU has been a coach in waiting and he looks like a nice hire for the position. TU is respected by the players and has been around quality coaches his entire life. Eddie Sutton hired 2 of his sons to his staff, Bob Knight hired his son, what is the big deal? I trust BU here as he has earned our trust. He has probably seen the inter workings of recruiting in his 6 years of being around his dad. I knew he would hire on somewhere on the staff.
You say this is very common but how common is it at the University of Illinois? I don't know the answer but I do know that the policy manual states:I know this announcement is gonna get hate regardless, but remember this is for a supporting role. Miles Smith was given an Assistant position. Not the same situation.
Nepotism undeniably played a part, but the whole "someone more qualified" argument disregards that this is an entry role. It's very common for people within an organization to get these type of opportunities - no matter what we perceive as "qualified". I've been given similar chances in organizations I've been a part of even though I'm sure they would've found a more "qualified" candidate had they done an official search
Or it's plausible that BU wanted to make the hire, then passed it onto his staff and/or Whitman's office to make a decision on whether it is warranted. I'm sure someone did their due diligence because this is such an easy conflict of interest situation that I just don't imagine it could have escaped unnoticed. You say this is very common but how common is it at the University of Illinois? I don't know the answer but I do know that the policy manual states:
No individual shall initiate or participate in institutional decisions involving a direct benefit (initial employment, retention, promotion, salary, leave of absence, etc.) to a member of the individualās immediate family. āImmediate familyā includes an individualās spouse, civil union partner, ancestors and descendants, all descendants of the individualās grandparents, and the spouse or civil union partner, of any of the foregoing. Each chancellor/vice president shall develop, for the approval of the president, university procedures to insure against such conflict of interest.

This being Illinois there is almost certainly an exception for some.
Zach may well disagreeā¦ā¦Zach Griffith disagrees with you.
I have no issue with TU getting this gig but my experience has been that like most things at the university, especially employment performance, that rule is there on a need-to-use basis. As long as no boats are rocked, nobody will enforce it or give a sh!t.You say this is very common but how common is it at the University of Illinois? Pretty sure it's an amazing hire. One might say elite.
I donāt know why everyone is bashing Miles Smith. He did well enough here to land an NFL coaching job with the Houston Texans.
