At the same time - that’s a good group to learn from.If ball/rose come and white move the the 2 then he’s going to lose mins. My hope was that he could start at 12-16 then build from there but it’s going to be hard with that group.
White has to be on his way out at this pointLonzo to the Bulls was fine for Ayo.
Alex Caruso to the Bulls is trouble.
For initial playing time certainly- but if Ayo isn’t better than Caruso next year, he shouldn’t really be playing anyway. Ayo has to beat out an NBA player for playing time no matter where he isLonzo to the Bulls was fine for Ayo.

Agree, but Caruso is making pretty good money, which means that it is doubtful he will be able to beat him out... Also, Caruso is a pretty good role player. Ayo will be fine. If in his 2nd year he isn't able to break into the rotation, then we should be concerned, IMO.For initial playing time certainly- but if Ayo isn’t better than Caruso next year, he shouldn’t really be playing anyway. Looking at the landscape, it wouldn't be a bad thing if he was traded to the Pelicans or Celtics.Agree, but Caruso is making pretty good money, which means that it is doubtful he will be able to beat him out... HE also played a playoff game with a dislocated elbow......and he still was effective.Top ten point guards dont fake a back injury to not play in the playoffs for a team they didnt want to be traded to.
You almost have to ignore the money these days in the NBA given it’s so crazy even for role players- but your point is valid- the fact that the Bulls felt they needed to get Caruso at $9M/yr to play a role that Ayo could have played - rotation defensive first guard with some playmaking (with Ayo having a lot more talent/upside) on the surface is bad for AyoAgree, but Caruso is making pretty good money, which means that it is doubtful he will be able to beat him out... The 2011 Rondo was what I thought we were getting when we traded Jae Crowder to get him in 2014. Turns out he wasnt that Rondo at all anymore.HE also played a playoff game with a dislocated elbow......and he still was effective.
I don't think it would have changed much this year either way. Most rookies do not see the floor much, if at all -- particularly non-lottery picks. Of course there's always exceptions -- your Malcom Brogdons -- but a lot of the guys that see a lot of floor time as rookies out of necessity (b/c their team is bad) also often develop some bad habits. Better to earn your PT rather than be given it, imo, and learn from (and compete against in practice) guys that have achieved some success already in the NBA. If Ayo is ready and able to contribute next year (his 2nd), then the team will find a way to get him on the floor, whether by trading away guys or by simply playing the best players.Looking like Ayo will be an “end of the bench guy” with the FA signings the Bulls have made thus far. As a Bulls fan i like it, as an Ayo fan....not so much.
What you dont want is this to turn into a Brian Scalabrine or Tacko Fallo in Boston situation.
After his deplorable, low-energy stint in Dallas (I'm a Mavs fan) back in 2014/15, I really soured on Rondo. He had a decent year after that, but all downhill from there. The 2011 Rondo was what I thought we were getting when we traded Jae Crowder to get him in 2014. Turns out he wasnt that Rondo at all anymore.
Good point. Curbelo is selling his Tshirts, Frazier is selling something,... Kofi likely will make much money this year.I’m gonna be really sad if Ayo could have made more money playing in Champaign this season.
Ayo can make a lot more money with a much larger fan base with the Bulls, along with Illinois fans still buying his jerseys and whatever shirts he wants to sell as well. This is the best scenario he could be in being a Chicago kid.Good point. Curbelo is selling his Tshirts, Frazier is selling something,... Kofi likely will make much money this year.
No, not signed yetHas Ayo signed a contract yet making it publicly official along with disclosing the terms?
Yes there are not a lot of minutes left over between Ball, Lavine, Caruso, White, and now Derozan. Ayo is going to have to really blow up to crack the rotation now. Probably will have to be content with sitting on the end of the bench and working hard in practice.Does DeMar signing hurt Ayo's playing time too?
The key for Ayo is to play defense more like Ball & Caruso than Lavine, White or Derozan.Yes there are not a lot of minutes left over between Ball, Lavine, Caruso, White, and now Derozan. I've been thinking how Ball is a perfect comp for Ayo, length, fills up the stat sheet, doesn't try to force the issue. I think it'll benefit Ayo a ton playing under him.The key for Ayo is to play defense more like Ball & Caruso than Lavine, White or Derozan.
