If I recall correctly he committed to Illinois because we actually recruited him as a QB, whereas other P5 programs were trying to recruit him as a WR.
You are correct, and I believe almost all of the 44 offers he had were as an athlete. Without the chance to play QB from Lovie, he wasn’t coming here imo. His offer list included Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas, Clemson, OSU, MSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Florida, etc.

Yes, that’s it. Regardless, the point still needs to be made that he was never going to be a QB in college. Either he or Lovie allowed that charade to go on longer than necessary.

My recollection is that a lot of them were looking at him as a DB, I know that was at least true of Alabama.

Nick Saban is the best DB scout who ever lived, that told me what kind of athlete IW was.

I could tell you without even seeing him in more than like 3 games that he just built different

What? You mean two deep safeties, soft outside corner zones, and a wide open middle of the field wasn't cutting it for you?!
This made me laugh. Then I cried a little. Then more laughing. It's like that. Gawd our defense was easy to plan for. If our D lines up and it's not crystal clear what defense we're dropping into I will be happy. I have a very low bar.

Not sure if this means anything in terms of attendance, but they are now selling tickets for the corner section 101 when I know those sections were initially blocked off.

Between growing excitement at the opportunity to go to a game for the first time in two years, decreasing ticket prices as game time approaches and Nebby fans scooping up the extras, I’d be surprised if there doesn’t end up being 50k plus. Understand why it won’t be the case - need to earn these through wins - but it’d be awesome to sell out the first game with full capacity fans in two years in the whole nation!

Saban talking about Billingsley in his last presser is one of the best things I have heard. I love a good Saban presser.

Anyone who gets shivers down their spine at the thought of an announcer saying "..they toss it to Rondale Moore in the flat..." knows how transformative Isaiah Williams could be for our offense.

The fact that that could happen on an offense in which Robert wondered whether the strength of this team will be the offensive line or the running backs, bodes really, really, really well for the over.

Brandon Peters will be like,"Sure, sell out to stop the run"...toss to Williams, toss to Ford, toss to Barker, wing it to Navarro. So much potential here!

I really do think that is the plan to make BP more consistent. It's much easier to be consistent when your run game is based off a Mesh-style RPO where based on the D he can hand it to a back or hit a quick pop to IW, Ford, etcetera. Playbook can be simplified and it still keeps the D guessing.

As a former University of Nebraska employee, I still pay attention to the news surrounding the Huskers. The big story line in Nebraska this week is how much of a "must win" game this is for Scott Frost. I still have friends in Nebraska who saw it as a major humiliation to lose to Illinois at home last year. Frost was supposed to be the guy who returned the program to Tom Osborne-like dominance, having played for The Coach as quarterback. He hasn't. Until you've lived in Nebraska, you have no conception of the religion that is Husker Football. I managed to not become a fan while I was there, but the pull of the dark side is strong. Frost's 12-20 record in two seasons is absolutely unacceptable in the eyes of The Faithful. Nebraska isn't a destination for top players anymore, and the rest of the B1G aren't afraid of them. Memorial Stadium in Lincoln is still an intimidating place to play (when full to capacity, it's the third-largest population center in Nebraska), but that's due more to the rabid fan base than the product on the field.

Make no mistake, this game is a very big deal in Nebraska. Scott Frost is on the hottest of seats because of his record, and because of the pending NCAA investigation. Trev Alberts was just named AD, and he hasn't been subtle about his expectations for the football program. Fans are calling for Frost's head because their patience has left the building, and they want nothing more than a return to national relevance. So, while this game is being seen as a somewhat ho-hum affair here and nationally, for Nebraska fans, it's a barometer for the type of season they can expect. If the Huskers win, they will be over-the-top enthusiastic about the rest of the season. If they lose, you'll see the cloud that descends over Nebraska from here.

Even though I lived in Nebraska for eight years, I never went to a football game in Lincoln. It's a little ironic that my first Husker game will be in Champaign, with me in orange and blue!

The eternal optimist in me says this post is so very, very, very much on target. In theory, we have so many offensive options, and none of them requires pinpoint accuracy from our mid-tier QB on a 25 yard post pattern to a 3-star WR down the middle of the field.

Brown. Love. Williams. Barker. Epstein. Ford. Navarro. Hayden. And all of them playing behind the most experienced OL in the Big 10.

See you at the game!

Agreed.

I can sense that pressure on Frost's shoulders from 2000 miles away.

How the mighty have fallen. In Nebraska, the world itself revolves around Husker football. If we can get up by two touchdowns, it just may crush them.
