So what do we think our chances are of being 3-0 going into Maryland? I ask out of selfishness because I’ll be at a home game for the first time since my student days.

Will be fun to see how the team responds to success next week. I don’t anticipate a let down, but it’s human nature so you never know. 60% chance of 3-0. Too low? Maybe. I hope so.

I think 60% is as good as one could go. UTSA is a legit team, but I think we will be okay. We will be underdogs at UVA, but that is a winnable game, even on the road. They were pretty solid in 2019 (winning their division in the ACC), but had a lot of injuries last year. I'd say 50/50, though I want to say higher.

Took points for 1 bet, money line for 1 bet and a parlay with UTSA giving 6.5 points. No matter what I'm going to end up ahead, just a question of how much. This may be a good year to bet on the Illini....

UTSA is no joke. The Athletic have them ahead of us in their preseason rankings (75 v 88, FWLIW). Doesn't mean squat, but we can't lay an egg. That said, I think we'll win.

Ecstatic about beating Nebraska. Still terrified about Illinois playing a frisky UTSA team next weekend. Let's hope the run defense against Nebraska was real because UTSA really depends on their RB.

Getting a game under our belts is a big advantage. We have a much better idea of what works and doesn't and get another week to fix it. UTSA may have plans, but those go out the window when you get punched in the mouth. Don't be surprised if we win this by two scores.

Has there been any word on BP? Also, I saw a few guys get banged up a bit. Were there any other injuries?

How great is it that we finally have a good 2 deep at ILB? Previously, if a starter went down, we were usually in for a load of trouble. Hope Hart isn't out for long, he made an impact.

Hart went down. He struggled to get off of the field after the injury. Feels comforting to have Barnes + Tolson + maybe Cooper that would be ready to fill in. PFF scores show that Barnes, while a step down from Hart, was solid in relief.

Here’s this year’s schedule with our opponent’s rankings according to football outsiders:

Nebraska (42)
UTSA (105)
Virginia (46)
Maryland (69)
Purdue (58)
Charlotte (119)
Wisconsin (6)
Penn St (10)
Rutgers (102)
Minnesota (29)
Iowa (12)
Northwestern (53)

Coming into the Nebraska game, they had us ranked 92.

But let’s say:

1.) Throughout the course of the season, we improve & end the season ranked 30 spots higher than we are now at 62.

2.) Any team ranked +/- 16 spots of us is a toss up and we split those games (I chose 16 because that’s where Virginia lands at the moment).

3.) Any team ranked 16 spots higher we lose and any team ranked 16 spots lower we win.

Wins:

UTSA (105)
Charlotte (119)
Rutgers (102)

Wins: 3 (puts us at 4 on the year).

Toss ups:

Virginia (46)
Maryland (69)
Purdue (58)
Northwestern (53)

Wins: 2 (puts us at 6 on the year)
Losses: 2

Losses:

Wisconsin (6)
Penn St (10)
Minnesota (29)
Iowa: 12

Losses: 4

Final record: 6-6.

After yesterday’s win, if you squint, it looks like we have a real shot to go bowling.

Thanks. Yeah Hart had a strong showing. Hope he’s okay too.

I was at the game yesterday and the heat was brutal. I have to agree concessions were terrible on the east side. I know they make a lot of their money off concessions, but with heat yesterday there should have been tubs of bottled water free for the taking. That might have cut down on the heat exhaustion cases a bit.

On a much brighter note, what a joy to see a well coached and well played game from my beloved Illini. I am truly excited for the future. We have a long way to go, but I think we will get there.

I spoke to someone at the game yesterday and they won’t be doing it that same way again. He said someone had the bright idea that in practice didn’t turn out. Fair enough. At least the block I looked right on the helmets so progress….

I don't think UTSA has more talent than Neb.....but they damn sure will be a better coached, better prepared, better team.
Because no Frost...
It was too warm to frost.

Sure hope Memorial Stadium gets their act together. The concessions area on the East side was a train wreck. Had to wait in line 45 minutes to get any food or a drink with ice. The crowd was jammed in there trying to pick up food that was ordered, and people were getting frustrated. Also, the bottled drinks only lines were way too long; plus when we got to the front the drinks were lukewarm and they were out of bottled water!!!! They seemed totally unprepared for a gameday where hydration was important. Some of my friends had to leave early as they were too hot and thirsty. I was planning to take the family next week to the UTSA game and enjoy the concessions for dinner, but I guess we will have to eat before we get inside as that would be a nightmare. I've been attending games at Memorial Stadium since 1977 and have never seen anything like today. They need to fix this asap if they want fans to enjoy the gameday experience in the stadium.
I was also surprised that the east gate was closed. Perhaps they were short staff to scan tickets but it could have at least been left as a useable exit. With all the "please practice social distancing" stuff it made no sense to basically funnel half the crowd in and out at the south/horseshoe gate which only has 4 lines, especially with this being the first major rollout of mobile ticketing. There was a huge blob of people trying to get in and of course half was people whose phone tickets wouldn't load or scan. DIA tried to get me to go mobile only this year for my season tickets.. They can pry the paper tickets from my cold dead hands
