I did not even look at the prices. Pretty steep…. Maybe an NIL with Kofi already?Goodness, those prices. Where do the proceeds from this go?

I'd let you buy one for me
In his defense, he has always been a fan of the Fighting Illini. But yeah I get your point, and it was nice to see him take to social media and rip on the NCAA with his defense of Kofi. My heart might even have a little more softer side for Vitale now that he's battling cancer. He's been insufferable at times during his time behind the camera, calling games for Dook and being such an irritating homer and a blabbering buffoon in the process. So it's good to see him defending our beloved Illini.Dick Vitale, sober voice of reason and clarity. That's a description never thought I would write.
No, you're not wrong. There shouldn't have been any punishment but when it became clear the NCAA, in all its wisdom, was going to do something 2-3 games was probably the best case scenario. Is it wrong that when I read this, my first emotion was relief that it’s only 3 games?
Fans need to be conscious about these things now, don't buy anything with a players NIL that the player doesn't directly profit from (I'm not sure this is the case for the #freekofi shirts). The sellers need to be aware as well else lawyers might start getting involved, and the athletic department should probably have someone on staff keeping an eye out for this type of stuff to help the players.I did not even look at the prices. It’s kind of like backpacking and taking trains through former Soviet countries. At some point you’re going to get nailed with some bogus fine for some arbitrary rule in a country run by an authoritarian and/or beaurocratically nightmarish regime. On one hand, you’re thinking this is total BS. On the other hand, you’re just glad they picked a number just small enough to be a nuisance rather than truly painful. And that’s intentional too, because if they hit you too hard then you complain. But the difference is that at least you know that the people issuing under the table fines are doing so just to put food in the table, whereas this has no meaning or purpose whatsoever. Is it wrong that when I read this, my first emotion was relief that it’s only 3 games?

Didn’t expect to see any Cracker references on this thread. A win for spontaneity today!Took the train down to Athens
And I slept in a fountain
Some Swiss junkie in Turin
Ripped me off for my cash
Yeah, I'll search the world over
For my angel in black
Yeah, search the world over
For a Euro-trash Girl
The CRS on the metro
Shook me down for a bribe
On my knees for the sergeant
When my passport arrived
Yeah, I'll search the world over
For my angel in black

ThisI’ve never much cared for Dicky V. Might be changing my mind.
Not only that, but the NCAA could have used the same logic it used against the program to punish BU. Thankfully they didn't (and I don't think BU did anything wrong but it honestly doesn't appear the OkSt athletic dept or anyone else other than Evans did wrong and they still got dinged)You really want to look on the bright side, at least we didn't ultimately hire Lamont Evans and get barred from the 2022 NCAA Tourney today. We dodged a major bullet there.
Speaking for myself, the manner in which he embraced the '89 team was enough to earn a very long leash.I’ve never much cared for Dicky V. Might be changing my mind.
Dickie V is obnoxious and his love of Duke and UNC (but especially Duke) only makes it more obnoxious. But, above all else, he just loves good basketball and is an equal-opportunity disher of praise on good teams and players, so I don't hate him. I just don't want to listen to him call a game.Speaking for myself, the manner in which he embraced the '89 team was enough to earn a very long leash.
Dickie V has had a soft spot for us ever since The Flying Illini that he named in 1989. Loved Henson and loved that team.Dick Vitale, sober voice of reason and clarity. That's a description never thought I would write.
As someone who got shaken down by the police on a Krakow city bus in '94 for paying to pay a "baggage surcharge", I truly appreciate your keen analogy. It’s kind of like backpacking and taking trains through former Soviet countries. Let me guess, the fine was $10 without paperwork but the official fine was larger? As someone who got shaken down by the police on a Krakow city bus in '94 for paying to pay a "baggage surcharge", I truly appreciate your keen analogy.
Few's suspension was self-imposed by Gonzaga. That way when the NCAA comes calling in 2025, they can show how much integrity they have. This is utterly ridiculous and is infuriating to me. Gonzaga's head coach drove drunk and was arrested for a DUI and was only suspended ONE game.
Kofi gets a 3 game suspension for just selling some signed jerseys or photos a month prior to NIL going into affect and to make it even more absurd the NCAA has the nerve to make Kofi give back all the money he made to a charity of his choosing. Kofi is being severely unfairly punished for just trying to make a living. I wonder if Zion had to pay back the $400,000 + dollars of money he made for playing at Duke for one season. Stuff like this always turns me off regarding NCAA college sports. The NCAA can rot in hell
