Illinois 76, Maryland 64 Postgame

Hey Coach...can I watch practice the next 3 days while you give Kofi the weekend off and practice the rest of the guys for 8 hours a day? Gotta find somebody to score when Kofi is on vacation....cause it is going to be every team's No. 1 objective to get him in foul trouble. He really does not have to be a rim protector because there are few teams...if any...who can match baskets with the Illini when he is on the floor. Just don't foul!!
Luckily Kofi has 21 fouls in 11 games so hopefully it doesn't occur to often. The 2 games he's had 4 fouls this year, he still managed 32 mins. in those games

Agree with you there. Was being facetious as any voters not thinking this is a top 25 team before this week should not be voting in a top 25 basketball poll.
Illini have not beaten anybody....and Md. is another nobody. I think this team is a top 5 contender, but let the voters eat crow. Win the next 5 and they will likely be top 5...or should be. But remember, finishing the season with 6 straight is all that matters.

I said in the game thread that ............

we had a great first 10 minutes
we had a bad second 10 minutes

Let's see what happens with Kofi back in at the start of the second half

We had an awesomely GREAT last 20 minutes........It's a 40 minute game and with Kofi on the court for the whole game we win another game by 20 + points....

I'm gonna get Comfortably Numb now....................................

This is absolutely not how you coach this game. It played out exactly like BU would want. Fresh Kofi for 30 straight in the second half.

I just don't get the need to second guess this strategy...not just when it happened...but now that it's over and we see how it actually played out.
BU doesn't make adjustments, we all know that ~s

Can't argue with you there. Would love to see it play out that way.

Sure but the flipside is that he only had 3 total fouls in the game - would he really have gotten to 5 if he had played 5 more minutes in the first half?
It he picks up the third, he can't play 1/2 as aggressively, as he did in the 2nd half. It he's juggling fouls, you're not getting 23 and 18 tonight. That's why, unless you're on the cusp of getting blown out...you sit patient until the 2nd half, when you have all of your bullets in the holster.

Plummer 4-14 / Grandy 2-12. Kofi sits for much of first half. 48-hr turnaround after 10 days of almost no conditioning and practice.

And we win by 12.

ILL- take it.
It’s great having 4 dudes that can shoot the long ball. One game it’s Plummer and Grandy the next game its Trent and DW…
I think we‘ve had 3 of our snipers do real well from 3pt-land on the same night…but not all 4, right? ...Lethal.

One of these days all 4 are gonna catch 🔥 on the same night and it’s going be euphoric.

Kofi looks like prime Patrick Ewing out there. The fact he’s not only swallowing up every rebound and explosively dunking on everyone, but he’s passing so well out of the post and has become a credible free throw shooter has blown the lid off his ceiling as a player.

We should be the highest ranked 3 loss team and I will fight anyone who disagrees.

He tweeked an ankle on Tue. I'm wondering if that was bothering him a little. Maybe BU wanted to let him sit for so long in the 1st half so after some half-time treatment, he would be able to go a long time in the 2nd half without having it stiffen up on him sitting on the bench? Just a theory

Agree to disagree. If he picks up a third fine sit him but analytics say play him. It turned out fine today but the dynamics of the game completely changed when he sat the last 10 plus minutes of the first half. Put some trust in him. Kofi is one of the best bigs I’ve seen stay out of foul trouble. He played smart the whole second half.

Hope they still have some room in the rafters for #21.
Forget about most dominant big man in Illini history… He may end up the most dominant full stop. This team is dynamite when he is on the floor, and obviously flawed offensively
when he isn’t.
Tough shooting night & Kofi foul trouble early is a good recipe for a L. Glad they stayed mentally tough and put together a really high quality final 15 minutes. Trent & Demonte are sooo gritty. Those dudes don’t blink.
