The Minnesota game that we just played on Tuesday was originally scheduled for two days prior (Sunday) but was postponed due to Covid.Am I remembering wrong or didn’t we used to play on weekends now and then?

Somewhere between that 3 and 13 spot feels about right.Ranked teams who have lost so far this week:
3
13
16
25
Gotta there’s a good chance we slip in after our two wins this week
I'll repeat: if we are only a 5 seed I will be very surprised. I still think we are pointed at a 3 seed and a 2 if we win the league or come in second or so plus win the B1G tournament. I would guess a 1 is still possible but we would need some of the others to stumble a bit. I feel like ending up as a 5 will require us to drop several games where we are clearly favored.Kinda loving life right now. ScUM in the first four out in Lunardi’s newest bubble watch. Illini up to a 5 seed . .

Agreed. There are so many quad 1 opportunities left on our schedule that the resume will be one of the best in the country when all is said and done. NET already has us in that 3-4 seed range.I'll repeat: if we are only a 5 seed I will be very surprised. 2018-2019 we played 14 Sat/Sunday games
2019-2020 we played 14 Sat/Sunday games
2020-2021 we played 10 Sat/Sunday games
2021-2022 we have scheduled 9 Sat/Sunday games
So we for sure are playing less weekend games, which is pretty frustrating for people who live out of town who would like to attend the games
Well, well, well, Marquette is still in the dance at the point in the season. Keep winning Scrappy Shaka's.Kinda loving life right now. ScUM in the first four out in Lunardi’s newest bubble watch. Illini up to a 5 seed . .

While I agree with you, I'm guessing we get in at around 18-19. There are still some clueless voters out there who see 2 losses to Marquette and Cincy (this one is the killer) and don't know Kofi was out (or likely that he is even on Illinois' roster).Somewhere between that 3 and 13 spot feels about right.
While I'm all-in on the Michigan schadenfreude express it is, after all, only January 7th. I look at KenPom and am not ready to write off them, or the Hoojins, just yet.Kinda loving life right now. ScUM in the first four out in Lunardi’s newest bubble watch. Illini up to a 5 seed . .
The Coaches and Writers polls have always seemed to me to be strongly lagging in recognition of a program's ascent or descent (both over the course of multiples seasons or within a single season). I can't really be bothered with whether we're recognized there. The numbers don't lie; at some point down the road in Feb we'll end up where we should be in those polls. We were #26, so it’d be a joke at this point if we aren’t ranked. Anyone with a set of eyes can see we’ve been playing like a top 15 team since December started … time to forgive us for the Marquette/Cincinnati games already, lol!
I was half joking. It's not often you see a team go from unranked to top 15 in one week. Now next week could be a different story. While I agree with you, I'm guessing we get in at around 18-19. Awful lot of talent on that team. They could continue to be mediocre for another month, and then all of a sudden catch fire. While I'm all-in on the Michigan schadenfreude express it is, after all, only January 7th. I look at KenPom and am not ready to write off them, or the Hoojins, just yet.
I'm looking forward to seeing Kofi against Dickinson and Trayce J-D.
Agree. I think that the voters look at win/loss record and then at whom a team has played. That's what I would do and I am as clueless as the voters. I think this is borne out, at least partly, by the fact that Minnesota at 10-1 was not ranked and barely got any votes at all. I think the voters saw who the Gophers played and said, "well, let's wait until they play better teams". Or they heard some of the rumblings from sports commentators, writers or whatever that Mn. has played a pretty weak schedule so far (up to the MSU and IL games). So in Illinois' case they might look at the fact that Illinois has won four games but they were against lower tier Big Ten teams. Don't get me wrong, I think Illinois is going to win the Big Ten title or come pretty close and is probably right now the best team in the Big Ten. Just saying what I think the voters are going to look at. So we may not even make as high as 18-19. Of course, I could be completely wrong. I know, hard to believe but it happens occasionally. While I agree with you, I'm guessing we get in at around 18-19. I mean let’s be honest. The Marquette loss on its own wasn’t terrible as we were missing Kofi on the road. I don’t think that one was so badWe were #26, so it’d be a joke at this point if we aren’t ranked. Aaaaall about perception of the program. If we're ranked, we get more media coverage and attention from the broader population. More recognition = better recruits = better program -> rinse, repeat. Are polls always accurate like Kenpom might be? Hell no. But that's not what this is aboutI truly don't get everyones fascination with the AP poll -- it couldn't be more meaningless.
If you want some ranking thing to keep track of during the season to keep you entertained, then look at Kenpom.
That's an interesting opinion, but it's wrong. KenPom is a better indicator of the strength of a team, but the AP Poll is what dictates things like media coverage and overall visibility. It's actually very important.I truly don't get everyones fascination with the AP poll -- it couldn't be more meaningless.

And that cool looking number next to your team name in score bugs generally comes from the AP poll. That's an interesting opinion, but it's wrong. There's a reason why the default setting for game scores on ESPN is "Top 25." Aside from watching your own team, people are generally most interested in watching ranked teams play. That's an interesting opinion, but it's wrong. Recruits don’t sign because we have been in the AP poll how many ever weeks in a row. They sign because of big ten championships and tourney successThat's an interesting opinion, but it's wrong.
