On a good roll, they just need to stay focused, there's no nights off in the B10; their next opponent Nebraska might be in last place but I've seen bits of their last two games against MSU and OSU and those guys are scrappy, took OSU to OT.
Absolutely. There are no breathers in this league. Have to come ready to play.

pruman91 walks a different path in life than most others do.....his path has a slant to it that sometimes is not understood by the masses......to say he is right or wrong is left to the unique individual reading his thoughts......his life path has been froth with successes and failures that has brought him to the Loyalty board with only good intentions and not judging anyone on his intentions when posting any of his meaningless jargon.....

He was a grasshopper for a long time .....now he is not.....what he is now is confusing , but never threatening to anyone....there is enough of that in the world nowadays..............................

Why don't we all just "" Live long and prosper ""......................It works for me ...................................

Pru, you are indeed a unique and strange bird, which is why you are a Loyalty legend my friend.
Hoping I don’t necessarily have a need to head to the magnificent and wonderful quilting capital of the world, aka Paducah, KY.
If I ever do, however, I would be delighted to raise a glass with you.
On a side note, you forgot to end your post to end with…….. “it really, really does”.

Agree. I think that the voters look at win/loss record and then at whom a team has played. That's what I would do and I am as clueless as the voters. I think this is borne out, at least partly, by the fact that Minnesota at 10-1 was not ranked and barely got any votes at all. I think the voters saw who the Gophers played and said, "well, let's wait until they play better teams". Or they heard some of the rumblings from sports commentators, writers or whatever that Mn. has played a pretty weak schedule so far (up to the MSU and IL games). So in Illinois' case they might look at the fact that Illinois has won four games but they were against lower tier Big Ten teams. Don't get me wrong, I think Illinois is going to win the Big Ten title or come pretty close and is probably right now the best team in the Big Ten. Just saying what I think the voters are going to look at. So we may not even make as high as 18-19. Of course, I could be completely wrong. I know, hard to believe but it happens occasionally.
Agree about the AP. Back when Loren Tate was one of the voters, he used to say it was a farce because he hadn't seen most of the teams play.

Me too. This team could use a shot of confidence especially when Kofi gets in foul trouble.
I'm not as enthused about Curbelo as many others are. I don't consider him a good point guard due to his habit of dribbling without purpose into traffic and turning the ball over. He needs to learn discipline. For the most part though, I do enjoy watching him play. And speaking of watching, Plummer is now 42 of 43 on free throws. That's 98 percent, amigos. Not even Larry Bird logged that %.

Uh... You do realize that the AP voters are the sports writers and broadcasters, right?

I inferred that to mean "shop talk." If my job is sportswriting, it's unlikely that I have the time to watch many highlight clips, let alone material stretches of games. It's even more pronounced for the coaches poll. And, like everyone, writers and coaches are creatures of The Herd and suggestible. If I must complete a ballot each week to remain a voter, then I'm going to do it no matter how uninformed I am.

Am not arguing that the conventional polls are insignificant. They're important and what the average fan pays attention to. Just that they're highly lagging for programs (e.g., like ours) that have fluctuated between "irrelevant" and "surprising" in recent years. And in the other direction, too. I recall in the post-'05 period when we were still in the Top 10 late in the season and I scratched my head about why. Then sure enough, we dropped out after underperforming for a significant enough period that voters probably realized were weren't what we formerly were. I notice that with other programs, too. IMO that's why Pomeroy was a godsend.

If the Illini keep playing as they have been doing I wouldn't be at all surprised if they go from unranked today to the Top 10 in these polls in early Feb.

The AP poll's go way back....Interesting article , even if it's wikapedia............the following comes from this article , no fromk me...........it really really does...

The AP college football poll's origins go back to the 1930s.
The AP began compiling a ranking of the top 20 college men's basketball teams during the 1948–1949 season.
The women's basketball poll began during the 1976–1977 season

The Associated Press Poll (AP Poll) provides weekly rankings of the top 25 NCAA teams in one of three Division I college sports: football, men's basketball and women's basketball. The rankings are compiled by polling 62 sportswriters and broadcasters from across the nation.[1] Each voter provides their own ranking of the top 25 teams, and the individual rankings are then combined to produce the national ranking by giving a team 25 points for a first place vote, 24 for a second place vote, and so on down to 1 point for a twenty-fifth place vote. Ballots of the voting members in the AP Poll are made public.[2]

I've always thought that this perception of Belo's game is wrong. Him dribbling into the paint provides either easy layups or kick out opportunities that our team this year has been lacking. Now obviously if he's turning the ball over every time he drives that's a problem - but last year he had an A/TO ratio of 1.61! Which btw was better than the A/TO ratio last year of a player that doesn't get anywhere near the same criticism: Ayo Dosunmu. Can he limit the turnovers? Sure. But even if he hasn't improved at all from last year he would still add a much needed dimension to this team

Belo's play THIS year needs to be taken with a grain of salt.......Last year's Belo is the true representation of his unique skills ......I know he had some bad
TO's last year , but his magical passes and scoring layups made up for them.........He is a very big part of the Illini roster and hopefully when he comes back we see last year's Belo and not this year's Belo........Injuries to the head and neck area are scary and i want him to be healthy for his future life........He could be the boost to the Illini that takes us somewhere special ....he is THAT good........he really really is ....................

Agreed Belo made every attempt to play thru the Concussion. Why would anyone (knowing what we know now) concern themselves with what we saw after the incident and not understand. If you want to discuss what a good to great Assist to Turnover Ratio is or should be then all ears. I can not justify holding Belo accountable knowing what we know. And if looking back at last year, what was his Assist to TO ratio early (before Jan 1) vs throughout the Big Ten games. We were able to see Belo grow all year and take over the Michigan game (???).

Belo still deserves all the respect he earned prior to the injury. I for one look forward to what he will contribute once he is back with a few games under his belt. Just an EVERYDAY GUY doing things on a grander scale for his teammates and coaches.

While I'm all-in on the Michigan schadenfreude express it is, after all, only January 7th. I look at KenPom and am not ready to write off them, or the Hoojins, just yet.

I'm looking forward to seeing Kofi against Dickinson and Trayce J-D.

I'm not convinced, but I hope you are right. I don't mind being wrong now and then.

A Chad is a frat style guy. Good looking, over confident, but a dufus. Basically.

I'm some of these things. 😄

Side note. Id really prefer not to scroll though soft core porn on this forum.
I had some explaining to do at work a few years back when I checked in on Loyalty when, unbeknownst to me, it was during the annual "bodies by Fletch" barrage of shirtless flexing Illini player pics

I thought the floor spacing was terrible at that time too. Too many players to close to the lane clogging things up. Granted, Belo needs to recognize that and adjust accordingly.
