Depth of this team showed today. Even horrific officiating throughout can’t take away from the efforts of the guys. Seemingly everything went wrong and still took Purdue to 2 OT without our best player getting to play in the second half. On to Maryland

1. Incredible fight. There were many points throughout this game where it looked like it was over.
2. BBV. What more can we say. A defensive effort for the ages.
3. Kofi needs to quickly forget this one. He, more than anyone, should have 2/10 in Mackey on his bulletin board. He was pushed around today.
4. The 15-0+ runs continue to haunt us. We fought back, but we were in such a hole we were never able to take the lead, or really extend the lead to 4-6+. I am not sure we lose if we find a way to do that in the second half or either OT. We were chasing all game after the first half lapse.
5. FT's. They hit theirs down the stretch. We did not.
6. It is great to have the real Belo back. We are a much more dangerous team (and better team, defensively) with him around.
7. This was a signature win that we needed. Though I love that we are ranked #17, we are still labeled as a team who's best win is Iowa.

Said it in the game thread but if you remain of the mind that horrid officiating doesn’t influence outcomes I don’t know what to tell you.
It wasn't that lopsided by the end. You can't blame this one on the officials. This was a really good and hard fought game where we had little room for error. Needed Kofi still in the game late, but some of his fouls were silly on his part.

Thank you for keeping us in this BBV. But Kofi’s absence was too much to overcome to close it out.

Belo makes us so much better with his ability to penetrate and create for others. The notion we were better without him was laughable before and can now (thankfully) be proven as false.

A lot to look forward to the rest of the way.

What a foul discrepancy. First half and last ot. Ivey played forever with 4 fouls, how? Plummer’s 3’s kept us in it but his defense hurt us late. Kofi has a ways to go against similar sized bigs. He missed some shots he should have made. Good to have Curbelo back. Don’t know why he didn’t have the ball more in the last OT.

Not happy to lose but very pleased with our fight. Belo and BBV breakouts were huge. Payne’s momentum killer was probably the biggest of the 5 or so plays that mattered most.

Plummer’s defense is really a factor but you can’t sit him when he’s dropping 20+. I would rather him give up open shots than consistently be beat by a cutter for high % buckets. Kofi isn’t trending in the right direction, especially for next-level opportunities.

Will get downvoted big time here but officiating at the end of the day was not the issue.

Once we got that game into overtime, it was completely in our hands and we should have won -- there is no excuse there.

On another note, I will volunteer my time for free to teach BVB how to finish around the rim. His effort was unbelievable but we probably win this game if he finishes his looks.

Tough loss, but we made them work for that win.
Good to see Curbelo back!
BBV needs to start seeing a lot more floor time!

Soooooooo incredibly proud of this team. Heart, heart, heart! That was a Final 4 quality game. If we "found" BBV we may have lost the battle but won the war long term! I can't tell you how psyched I am about what I just watched. Oh and only 8 to's in double OT game!

This game for Kofi reminds me of the first game he had against Garza where he struggled, but came back the second game and had a much bigger impact. i think we will see the same thing after this game. He has a lot to take from film.

As disappointing as it was to lose, we saw Verdonk show he can defend a strong post player. I’m happy for him to have a great game. Hopefully it gives him confidence and the coaches confidence in his play.

Curbelo also showed when his head is clear, he is a huge positive factor. I’m excited to see how this team finishes with him back.

Bardo makes me remember Dakich isn't all that bad. I have to turn off the sound when Bardo has an Illini game. His "better put your big boy pants on" every 5 minutes is getting old. But the good news of the day is that the Illini made a game of it without Kofi...and Belo was a lot better than I expected in his first game back. Better days are coming. (I still think the turning point of the game was Payne's flagrant 1.)
