One little And-1 call on Plummer’s lay up underneath at the end of 1st OT and we win. We absolutely lead the nation in fewest And-1 opportunities, Mr Bardo.
Great effort all. BBV! Put an asterisk on the schedule for a victory for the stripes. Painter is a straight shooter. Bet he’d admit the refs handed one to him.

I have to disagree with you. We managed to stay in it despite the officiating.

Imagine what happens if Kofi is still in it and playing with fluidity. We might have lost still, but it feels like we would have had a better chance of pulling it out in the second OT
agreed, 2 things can be true at the same time- officiating was bad and influenced the game, we still could have won

We complain about the refs more than any fanbase I’ve ever seen in any sport, but it actually did us some good today, the crowd bought us a couple calls in the second half.

Curbelo’s performance from the second half on was very comforting though. Our guy is still in there.

I thought the refs were fine really compared to everyone here. Only gripe I have is Plummer was fouled at the end of overtime on the play where Curbelo had 3 guys run at him.
Lol I thought for sure the ball was going to roll of bounds on that play. It was likely watching the entire game slip away in slow motion. 🤣

We lost but we fought hard. There’s a lot of good things to take away from this game. BBV what an effort. And great to see Curbelo back healthy. We will be a very tough out in March.

Epic...Epic....Epic college game. Thank you Andre and BVV!! Feel bad for Kofi but what a learning opportunity. Played their hearts out....too bad there had to be a loser, but this was the least important game with Purdue this season...and not the last. Three to go. And as for Trent...just shake my head and wonder how he can play that hard.

But now we know what Andre Curbelo can bring to the table. Maybe his best game ever. 18 with 3 asst. and ZERO turnovers. That was elite and just enough magic without huge risks. Love that Andre..and need that Andre. What is so unusual about his game is that he is an exceptional shooter inside 12 ft. and almost useless beyond. Not sure I have seen a player of that ilk....ever....and that takes in a pretty huge sample.

Some may say a disappointing loss, but it truly is not. All these guys can say is they played well...most of the game and almost every player. Can't do more. Purdue is the most unique team in college hoops history...and they played well.

Bottom line, we may never see another game like this....unless these two meet for a national title. Things may be different then, or not. But hope even Illini fans can come to understand what a special game this was. Epic.

Bardo makes me remember Dakich isn't all that bad. I have to turn off the sound when Bardo has an Illini game. His "better put your big boy pants on" every 5 minutes is getting old. But the good news of the day is that the Illini made a game of it without Kofi...and Belo was a lot better than I expected in his first game back. Better days are coming. (I still think the turning point of the game was Payne's flagrant 1.)
100% agree. He over analyzes the game

That run started with a questionable flagrant that gave them two shots and possession of the ball. A flop on a three we corralled in 2OT took it to a two possession game. So on and so forth. The crap calls were endemic.
The fact you think that flagrant was questionable shows that you've got orange tinted glasses on. It was 100% a flagrant, and a dumb move. There's a reason Omar didn't see much PT after that

If there is such a thing as a good loss, this is it. Despite everything going against us in this one, we almost nabbed the win against a very talented Purdue team that really needed this win.

Really loved seeing Curbelo return and playing better than we could have ever dreamed for his first game back. Awesome performance by BBV. Whole team showed amazing heart and grit. Everything is still in front of us, and I feel like we can use this outcome to our advantage as we move forward.

So we're either the least knowledgeable fan base you've ever seen in any sport......or there is a clear pattern here.

It seems like the first few minutes they were going to let them play and then all of a sudden it turned into a foul fest favoring Purdue. I hate complaining about refs but they were not good in this game.
The third foul on Kofi was ridiculous. I believe he was on the floor with a Purdue guy and the Purdue dribbler just tripped over his back.

Honestly, he feasted on Kofi, but was ineffective against Omar and BBV. I was surprised.
I love King Kofi but his game is about over powering others bigs. He struggled to do that vs Edey. Kofi is a great college player and I love him on our team. He us what he is and I hope he stays another year. Not so sure about the NBA for him at least not yet.

It's really easy to pin this on officiating, and they certainly didn't help, but we gave up a 17-2 run to end the first half. This was within our grasp despite officiating.
See I think so much of that run can be pinned on the officiating, specifically. They took 10+ minutes trying to decide what to call the Omar elbow, and while they may have been going by the book on that one, I think that is the lightest flagrant foul one could call. Very easy argument for Omar just running down the court and trying to get by Stefanovic, with an accidental elbow graze as a side result. But if you're going to call a graze to the head a flagrant no matter what, then why does it take so long to get to that decision? The Hall was bumping all the way up until that review, and then the energy was zapped from the building. In a game of runs, pulling the plug on one run (the run we had been on up until that point) is as effective a means as any other to get the other team going.
