Going forward, with Andre quickly getting back in the flow of the game and distributing the ball while breaking down defenses, and BBV coming off the bench with hustle and toughness to spell Kofi, we will continue to make strides, hopefully win the conference, and be extremely dangerous in March. Right now, the Illini and Purdue are the best teams in the Big Ten, with MSU, Wisky, and OSU right behind. Brad and staff have instilled toughness and fight in these young men, who are living up to the name Fighting Illini. Makes long time fans proud.

I think finding the right lineup with Curbelo is going to be key. If I was Brad I would try really hard to not have him on the floor the same time as Plummer and possibly even Trent. Problem is Plummer is a negative on defense and Curbelo tends to take risks.

I think a Payne - Curbelo - Jake - Goode - Coleman lineup is very tough to guard.

Right, so no Kofi for 10+ minutes, and the foul disparity is a small impact. Gotcha.

Kofi was outmatched today. He did pick up a ticky tack foul, no doubt. That said, he was dominated by Edey from minute one. They were better with Kofi off the floor, especially vs Edey.

It's way too easy to blame the refs. While some very big calls went against Illinois, there are still a LOT of things that occurred that really determined the outcome, some of which we don't want to hear.

Up 24-20, Purdue missed a shot, Illinois couldn't secure the rebound(again) and it led to the uncontested three.

That was immediately followed by the Payne flagrant.

Which was the start to a 17-0 run. That should NEVER happen in a game. A 7 minute scoring drought should never, ever happen.

Kofi(sigh). I love the guy. However, he can't play with bigs of his size, bigs who are long and athletic or bigs that can stretch the floor. He's a liability. He's dominant against smaller players who can't physically match up with him. There is no NBA future for Kofi, which is why he isn't high on many(if any) draft boards. They try force feeding him and it's an automatic turnover or a bad shot, which serves as a turnover. All of that is ok, provided they adjust their game plan accordingly. I have a total mancrush on BU too, but he does not have "the best big man in the country."

Plummer has to be more aware defensively.

The good news is that with Curbelo back, this team is not so one dimensional. Their reliance on three's is reduced by his ability to drive, get to the rack and finish. They don't have another guy on the roster who can do that.

There's a LOT of good that can be taken from this game. Nothing good comes from blaming the referees. If Illinois is better at the end of the first half, they win comfortably, regardless of calls.
I’ll take a 22 ppg 12 reb/g liability every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Are you kidding me with that take?

The fact we didn’t flounder when Kofi was out ala vs. Maryland was encouraging. Part of that was Curbelo maybe, part of that was game plan, other part was BBV and Payne stepped up.

All games in the B1G have questionable refereeing. Should be no surprise.

If the defense wouldn’t allow those back door cuts, probably a win.

Great games from Belo and BBV. Really makes the team even more deep and diverse.

Can’t wait to see these upcoming games. It’s gonna be fun watching them compete for a B1G championship.

Edey doesn’t need to foul and he knows it
Although on the loose ball where he dove and knocked Frazier out of the way…. Was surprised there wasn’t a whistle. It was a high leverage desperate situation and usually a ref will punish someone for going out of control.

Agreed Kofi was very frustrated by the calls and plays. He definitely needed to be taken out after the 3rd early in the 2nd half
Yeah, I'm not sure what BU was thinking there except maybe he had decided to sit Payne for the rest of the game.

Kofi was outplayed today. It was going to happen. He’ll be back.
To all of those posters that said Belo was a liability and /or would ruin the chemistry need to go out and buy a tee shirt from him.
Omar will not be our starting center next year.
Alexander needs to be spending his time with BBV instead of Omar.

Ok, now he's played two games vs NBA caliber big guys. Arizona(5 of 15) and Purdue(3 of 9). Not great. He's not averaging 22 and 12 in those games.

However vs Minnesota, Iowa, Maryland, Rutgers, Nebraska, etc....those teams have no answer physically. He racks up great numbers.

They have a stretch coming up where teams are longer, more athletic and more physical. Will he be averaging 22 and 12? I hope he does.

Did the officiating look as bad on TV as it did at the game? I left SFC wondering who JW has to gratify sexually to get decent officiating at home. Not even homer calls... just not obviously unfair. Just me? Probably just me. Anyway, fun game, and it was SUPER nice to see Andre healthy and on the floor with his mates. I'm just glad he's feeling better (and he had a nice little game as well). Team responded well to adversity and I'm optimistic about the future with the recruits we have coming in. Glass half full taking Purdue to doble OT. Have a week all! On to next.

I actually did watch this at home and replayed multiple calls. The refs weren't perfect (shocker!), but it averaged out roughly in the end. They let some stupid !!!! go from our team too. If you've actually watched every game this year, there is no objective way you can say this was the worst ref'd game we had this year.
I don’t know what your definition of ‘averaging out’ the calls is, but 22-14 foul & 32-15 FT discrepancies is not mine.

It’s true that they let both teams do some banging, but it’s all about having a consistently called game, which it wasn’t. Both teams were equally intense & aggressive; the foul calls should have been a bit more balanced for such a great contest.

Seriously...you need to go back and watch last years PU games. Kofi was outmatched because he was punished for his physicality while Edey was rewarded for his, as was Williams. It was 3 on 1..with 2 of those having almost total control of how you play.

Edey is not better than Kofi...and he never will be. He's 7'4". He got rewarded for it. Along with some other factors that I will refrain from mentioning.

I realize I have completely destroyed this drum I'm beating, and I hate "it was the refs!"....because it wasn't all "the refs!"...but it was the refs.

If we have Kofi rolling to the basket with Curbelo for 10+ more minutes in the second half...this game doesn't go to OT.

Ugh. Not really feeling that upset but can’t keep from saying this

Damonte needs a letter of apology for the refs. They called that one could whwre he was nowhere close to fouling. Just standing with his hands up. And then he got totally hip checked and sent flying on that offensive rebound late. These two instances represent the way the game was called.

Those things def matter in a game this close.

I think he means, 22-14 favoring the Illinois opponent... that's about average for us. LOL

Curbelo - Zero Turnovers in 25 minutes on the floor. Scored 20 points while shooting over 50%. Led the team in Rebounds(!).

Curbelo skeptics and haters wanna comment?
He looked more comfortable today and played much more under control relative to early season. He had some amazing plays, as he usually does. What a game by Belo
