I mean AK must be sitting there and wondering- " how in the hell did we manage to get Ayo Dosunmu"

Might be the steal of the draft in my mind.
My mind is a bit prejudiced.

On this podcast they agree with you that Ayo was the steal of the draft. They also mention him as a top 5 rookie defender. He gets quite a few mentions over the course of the rookie-centric discussion.

Spotrac seems to indicate they can offer him a qualifying offer after 2023 and he would be a restricted free agent after that

I think I posted up three was that I find NBA free agency rules as clear as mud. I’d trust Sportrac over me on this one.

I love what Ayo has done for the U of I. He will be the centerpiece of Illini basketball in Chicago for years to come. All those kids living there will see him excelling every game for the Bulls. No better advertising than that. Why do you think these Chicago kids are beginning to sign with Illinois.

Lonzo has a torn meniscus really sucks for the Bulls but it means Ayo will continue to be featured. Probably means they can’t use Coby in a trade as well.
This really sucks. With the way Ayo has played, it should be interesting to see if Billy starts him over Coby and Caruso.

To the extent that you want to value Win Shares as a metric to compare players, Ayo is now up to 5th among all 2021 draftees in Win Shares per Basketball Reference.

Behind Mobley, Barnes, Wagner and another 2nd rounder, Herbert Jones.

With White's excellent progression, it may be better for the Bulls to hang on to him.

One thing's for sure, White is a much better trade chip than he was a few weeks ago.

IMHO it was Ayo's play that made him realize he had to up his effort to keep his minutes.
Kind of a gross oversimplification, no? But I'm certain Ayo's play is a factor, quite possibly a big one.

Yes, he is a shooter, but he can get to the rack and finish pretty well against tough defense. That impresses me. He also hits the mid-range shot.
Yeah he's definitely not just a 3 point shooter, but I meant one-dimensional more in the sense that he's only a scorer (and primarily scores as a jump shooter). Not a rebounder, not a playmaker/facilitator for others, not a plus defender. He's one of the best in college at what he does well, and that skill is one of the most important in the game, but he's pretty limited to just that contribution and is unfortunately a negative on the other end. Don't mean to sound like I'm hating on Plummer here -- he's been so big for our team this year -- but the above is why I don't think you can put Plummer above a multi-faceted player like Rice.

Lonzo's out 6-8 weeks so he can get arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. It's the same knee he had work done on back in July 2018 and was able to return in time for training camp with Lakers.

Bulls need a big man if they want to win a championship. They were saying today on Chicago radio that the Bulls will most likely have to choose between trading Coby, Williams or Ayo to get a big man and it’s sounding like there’s a possibility Ayo is gonna be the odd man out or they’re going to have to hit the buyout market. Personally I can’t see them trading Ayo at this point on his absurdly value-friendly salary but just passing along what I heard today.

Who said that? Just curious if it is one of the WSCR knuckleheads or someone reputable.

They have to make the money work in a trade and Ayo’s would not bring anyone in trade that they’d want

I hear Giorgi is available on short notice.

Also think there's a compelling argument that the ROI for Ayo is huge right now given his cheap rookie contract and disproportionately large marketing pull both from the city and U of I. Seems like it would be a questionable basketball and business decision at this point.
