Silver lining is maybe we get to see BBV continue his spark off the bench. And hopefully we see more of a + than - Omar.

In all my years as an Illinois fan, I can't remember a team that's had more injuries than this one. And it's not even close.

Let's not forget that going into this year, we all pretty much accepted the fact that Kofi was not gonna be on this team. So we will just get a glimpse as to what the team could have been like.

Lol...I literally just threw a mini tantrum in my head.

"I don't want to watch a game without Kofi!"

It's okay. We have Curbelo now, so there's still some flash.

I know that the difference in the last game against MD was Kofi.

I still think that staff, knowing that Kofi is out in advance, can handle a new game plan. Especially with having Belo back as a possible option.

Sure, he said he was having horrendous headaches. It's hard to imagine that headaches WOULDN'T effect his shooting percentage on shots like that.
I just don't think it's realistic to think that now, after his return, he's going to continue to hit 80% on those (which it seemed like he did in the second half against Purdue.) If he happens to miss a couple in a row, let's not all get up at arms.
No, it is not realistic that he will hit 80% of his fadeaway 15-footers, or the like, but his future performances likely won’t be predetermined head down drives to the basket and frantically throwing the ball away.

Tonight will be a good test to see where he is with Kofi now concussed.

Also, QUIT HITTING OUR GUYS IN THE HEAD, JERKS!

I don't remember which year, but I recall one of Groce's teams was missing like half the starters all year for various ailments. I started wondering if it was a symptom of poor S&C.
Yea, there have definitely been worse. Tracy Abrams pretty much missed 2 straight seasons, didn't he?

This season has been worse than the last few, but most of this season has been one big injury, and it's a concussion - so can't really do much about that. We'll see how Kofi's plays out.

I believe that was his 2nd to last year - 2016 when he probably would have been fired if not for all of the injuries and suspensions on that team

Papi distributing when he's on the floor; BBV, Omar down low. Trent being Trent. DMW being DMFW and keeping a cool head. Plummer stroking it from the arc. C'mon. We're deep, we have Turbo Curbo back to a great extent, and we've got some seriously seasoned leaders. They're not going to melt like snowflakes. They'll ball, and bang, and win. :illinois::chief:

[EDIT: In addition, I see no analysis in your post of Maryland's woes.]
VERY good point out on Maryland's issues. That can't be understated.

how many games will it take a portion of this fanbase to start the, 'ya know we are actually better without Kofi' talk????

Welcome to the House of Payne!!!

SO tired of the toe stubbing this lineup keeps getting, My hope was a team that was together and clicking come February and this puts that in jeopardy. Lets hope this is a minor concussion, each one is different and handled differently but seems like they missed some signals with Curbello so I imagine caution will be the error we side on.

It usually is down to poor S&C when that's going on. I can't recall ever having two concussed starters, let alone the catalyst and prime mover of our offense. Just terrible generally, and terrible timing.

Anyone remember in the second half where Kofi was trying to get DJ Bald Head’s attention and rubbing/pointing to his head after Edey kept throwing elbows? Remember how he was ignored completely? It’s a joke and there are consequences to incompetence like that, not just wins and losses (although those too).

This is such an Illinois thing to happen. On the bright side it forces us to figure out how to play without Kofi. On the down side, it sucks not having our NPOY candidate available to us.

I've been saying all year that these worthless BIG 10 refs where going to get someone hurt. Now we have a 2nd player out do to the worthless refs not calling fouls on the players that are literally beating our guys up.

Seems like a good game to just get out and run. Rotate the 5 spot between Omar, BBV, and CHawk. Keep them all fresh and tell Frazier and Belo to push the ball non stop.

I would love to see how Belo can play with CHawk in the pick n roll game.

This is a picture perfect "trap game". Road game, against a bad team, in an arena that will probably be dead, and it's sandwiched right between two of the biggest games of the year. But I think the combination of a mature team, plus Purdue losing last night, plus Belo bringing back the energy, plus players wanting to step up in Kofi's absence means we will stomp them. Might take us awhile to get going but the last 5 minutes will be comfortable.

If it was a trap game, it isn't anymore. No way they overlook this one with their All American center missing. First, we're coming off of a loss and guessing that BU will use this to circle the wagon and give a rallying cry.

To be clear, although many on the Board had written them off earlier in the week, I never have. They have length and talent and have face-planted v. Rutgers and Michigan in consecutive games. I take for granted they'll be primed to play us at home.

Their problems concern Donta Scott's inconsistency at the 4 compared w/last season when he played a lot at the 5; their PG transfer from Rhode Island, Russell, who likes to shoot but can't, though he gets to the line often; and Ayala's drop-off from last year on his shooting consistency inside the arc.

Oh, and the fact that the coach they all liked (and who recruited all of them) walked off the court in early December and quit in the tunnel. And that one of their assistants was arrested for soliciting prostitutes in suburban DC and suspended.

Their center Wahab (transfer form G'town) concerns me but not as much as if he were Trayvion Williams playing the 5. I like Omar's (and BBV, if he gets tick) chances against him.

I'll end with the Captain Obvious comment of the morning: we play tenacious D, we win. We don't and anything can happen. We need guys to step up in KingC's absence. I'm confident they will. That's what I like so much about this team. :illinois:
