It usually is down to poor S&C when that's going on. I can't recall ever having two concussed starters, let alone the catalyst and prime mover of our offense. Just terrible generally, and terrible timing.
Are you referring to the Groce team? Because concussions have nothing to do with S&C.

No; I realize that concussions have nothing to do with the former (spate of injuries on a team.) Was talking about the latter.

Anyone remember in the second half where Kofi was trying to get DJ Bald Head’s attention and rubbing/pointing to his head after Edey kept throwing elbows? Remember how he was ignored completely? It’s a joke and there are consequences to incompetence like that, not just wins and losses (although those too).

Absolutely. I was yelling for the staff to ask them to go to the monitor. He just gets the well he's big so he can take it crap all the time. Need to send the tape to BIG officials. Get those 3 clowns fined or something.

I know that the difference in the last game against MD was Kofi.

I still think that staff, knowing that Kofi is out in advance, can handle a new game plan. Especially with having Belo back as a possible option.
This will NOT be like the first half of the Maryland game, for reasons you mentioned. But more so…

- Omar has been playing SO well lately. The gripes on the board have gone way down if that’s any measuring stick you want to use. But his defense has been good, if not great. And how does he score? Lobs.

- BBV was a real spark off the bench. His defense will stick and carry, and he is still one of the better passing big men I’ve seen. He doesn’t have to score, but if he does? It’ll be open looks around the basket

- and who can get lobs, open looks to these big men? Look no further than El Mago.

Look I’m not saying we can replace the dominating presence Kofi brings inside or the terror he gives other coaches and big men, but combined Omar, BBV and even Hawkins can get to 15 and 15, which would be a decent Kofi night. I think we are gonna be FINE.

Well, makes the Maryland game less of a given, BUT we really should still beat them. It really sucks for the MSU game. We NEED to win that game if we are going to get the title this year. Hope be has a quick recovery. I havd 2 concussions that we only a few days, but I also had 1 that affected me for weeks. Ugggg, this sucks.

CoHawk can get 15 & 15 by himself. So 25 & 25 should be a reasonable sum for the trio.

Missing players will, in the end, make us better come tourney time! It's just brutal to go through during the moment.

At least that is the road I am taking and we have already played a few games without King Kofi this year. What did we learn and have those guys gotten better since? Our staff has had 4 days to prepare for this, Maryland has today.

Its BBV and OPP time....looks like we will be splashing it tonight from the arc. Expect the worse and hope for the best!

Anyone else hoping that if Brad gets asked about Kofi getting concussed that he goes off on the Purdue officiating (or how Kofi is called generally) and takes the fine? If I’m Kofi I would love it—just because he’s gargantuan doesn’t mean he’s magically immune to pain, injury, and, you know, getting hacked.

Didn’t the statement say the concussion happened during the Purdue game? Why is S&C in this discussion? Are they doing some sort of new skull crusher exercises I haven’t heard about?
Because S&C was not being discussed in the context of the current injury.

With Kofi out this game becomes a lot closer unfortunately. Hopefully he gets healthy and get to see him against MSU which we will need. The line originally was 7 for us but has now moved down all the way to 3. The model pre Kofi injury had us as an 8 point favorite. Lets win this game and get healthy. Still projected to the win the B1G with Wisconsin on our tail who probably has the easiest schedule out of the contenders left.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Andre Curbelo was beaming internally during his return. The crowd erupted and he finally got back on the court Monday against Purdue after missing 11 games.
“I cried on the inside,” Curbelo said.
Illinois (13-4, 6-1 Big Ten) now has a full team for the first time all season with a healthy Curbelo, after playing well without him and jumping out to first place in the Big Ten.

“Coming into the year, so many great expectations for the team, personally, for other guys too,” Curbelo said. “I was just very excited for this year. I still am. I still believe things I said before the season. I think we’re that team. I know it for a fact.”That first step is finishing a season sweep of the Terps after a Jan. 6 win in Champaign that Underwood described as a “lifeless” performance when a big second half from Frazier and Cockburn gave the Illini a late win.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

With the expectation of Kofi being out , I hope CoHawk is over his ailment and can benefit from Belo's passes in the paint............I was worried before the news of Kofi's absence but the Illini have been through this already this year and should play at a faster pace.....

No, it is not realistic that he will hit 80% of his fadeaway 15-footers, or the like, but his future performances likely won’t be predetermined head down drives to the basket and frantically throwing the ball away.

Tonight will be a good test to see where he is with Kofi now concussed.

Also, QUIT HITTING OUR GUYS IN THE HEAD, JERKS!
This whole driving down the lane with his head down and throwing the ball away rhetoric seems to be hinged on the Marquette game. Keep in mind that was the first time AC had every played in front of a hostile crowd. The next week, he looked somewhat better, but Kofi had just returned and the team was still gelling. And for Pete's sake, Belo was judged on one of the smallest, dumbest sample sizes in the history of college basketball. He's an All-American talent.

Curbelo being back lessens Kofi's absence tonight, he will be able to get our bigs the ball. Omar should have a couple dunks this game
I agree. Last game, we gave up the 16 point lead because we simply passed it around the wing and chucked up 3's (and mostly missed). Belo opens things up similar to the way Kofi does.
