My son, who lives in Kenosha and is a Badgers fan, told me Illinois leads the nation in left-handed Puerto Ricans. I reminded him Andre and Melendez are both right handed.
Andre counts as ambidextrous, so maybe give him a .75

I was a preferred walk on for a D1 school, because they were on scholarship probation. But it was my only chance at D1 so I went there anyways knowing I was on the team but not on scholarship
So I’m curious. Did you have scholarship offers at the D2 level? What is the allure of being on a D1 team without much chance to play vs. playing D2 on scholly?

Have no idea how tall Ty Rodgers is, but in view of today's efforts to exaggerate in every way as well as virtually no player measuring at his college listed height when measured by the NBA, my best guess is 6'6 5/8". Why this is done I can offer no reasonable idea. If I were a coach, I would list all my players 2-4 in. shorter. Then when a cocky team expects a bunch of midgets to show up, they look up to look you in the eye. That is far more intimidating.
It’s funny too because the college might get measurables on visits or at least from the athlete’s physical.

To your last point, we played a team last year that listed their players 2-3 inches taller than they were. This was our opponent in the 3rd round of the playoffs, so we weren’t able to scout them in person, only on film. They came in 27-1 and played a Syracuse style 2-3, and mixed in a 1-3-1. But once we got to the game the 6’4 guy was 6’1. The 6’6 guy was 6’4. Any concern about height/length in the zone went out the window. Really gave our guys a confidence boost for that game, as we were a very small team.

We'd rather have the top guys in Chicago more times than not. What Underwood has shown is that he won't go down with the ship on those guys and is more than willing to look elsewhere. Weber and Groce spent too much time on instate guys we couldn't land, and then we had to settle for plan C and D type guys.

Underwood has shown he can land the plan Bs, and with all the talent out there, plan B guys are really good.
I agree, if we can get top in state talent that wants to be here great. But going back to 3 years ago and more. This board was all over which Chicago program we needed to be in bed with. It is nice to see us getting top player from where ever.

Give me all the Ayo's we can get. What a class act and great player from Chicago
Also, give me all the Kofi's, Trent's, and Andre's that love our school and play their hearts out. I don't see them as Plan B's

C'mon. Not every out of state kid is a Plan B (or less).

I like it. He might be our next Brian Johnson (b10 champ). Hopefully not our next Rick Kirby (we ran out of pgs in 1976)

Glenbard West Class of 2022 guard Paxton Warden on Wednesday announced his commitment to Illinois as a preferred walk-on. The 6-foot-4 guard plays for top-ranked Glenbard West (20-0 so far this season), which features Gonzaga commit Braden Huff and Princeton commit Caden Pierce. As a junior, Warden averaged 10.1 points per game, 3.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists and 1.0 steals. Warden held a scholarship offer from NAIA programs Saint Xavier and Governors State.

More power to him. Playing time will be limited, but he will be on a Big Ten, Division 1 team. I would have taken that scholarship to Saint Xavier and never look back. His high school team is highly ranked so he should be able to bring something to the table. A good practice player at the very least.

I saw him play in Decatur and he is all of 6'6"and possibly 6'7". He is a very good strong athlete whose best attributes are superior passing ability and strong handle for a guy his size and with a strong body. He is an active player but we saw almost no shooting and he really deferred on offense, like a pass-first PG, in the game we watched. He was the primary player who brought the ball up the floor and initiated the offense. He has the skills (handle/height/body) to be great at driving the ball but I echo concerns I have seen about shooting ability (albeit for lack of evidence mostly)
Sounds a lot like Stephen Bardo on the Flyin' Illini.

Bardo was the glue guy who typically guarded the other teams top scorer.

That was a fun team - Battle Gill Anderson Bardo Hamilton with the Smith and Liberty coming off the bench.

The ball bounces the other way on Sean Higgins air ball and we probably beat Seton Hall in the finals.

This was my all time favorite Illini team....I know the 05 team made the finals and had the dramatic comeback against Arizona...but watching Bardo, Battle, Gill, Anderson, and Co. was fun.....and they didn't really have that dominate big guy (Battle was 6'6"..Hamilton & Liberty around 6'7"-6'8") in the middle.....and I think this was the team that beat Shaq and LSU in like double OT....Anderson making the half court shot to beat the Hosers in Bloomington.....destroying Mizzo in the Braggin Rights game....the best IMHO

Hamilton and Battle are 100% and we also likely beat SH in the Finals. Hamilton had to leave the game pretty early. Battle stayed in but clearly wasn't 100%.

Or Bill Frieders doesn't get fired and we likely beat SH in the Finals. That loaded Michigan team was a different team after they fired Frieders. It's like all the talent all of a sudden remembered how good they were.

Do we even have available scholarship space for him? Also Underwood definitely said in an interview that we're done with recruits from the class of '22.
I wonder if he's a contingency plan if Kofi leaves
