This strategy was developed and popularized last year by Tom Izzo. I've heard rumors that he held a super secret coaches clinic in the off-season to teach Illinois opponents how to deliver debilitating headshots that are undetectable by modern officials and largely without any real disciplinary consequence.
Iirc, Izzo didn't say they were undetectable. He just said B1G zebras wouldn't call them fouls if they were directed at Kofi. A payback thing, I think he said.

Here in College Park. The bartender is very nice despite my Illini gear. Remember to always tip the opposition well if they still treat you above and beyond.
Surprised you got service at all. Not because of the Illini gear, mind you, but because I’ve never experienced a city with worse customer service in the restaurant business.

Edit: wow, I sound like a grumpy old man, but I stick to my comment. Lived there six years and it wasn’t a one-off thing.

I play full court basketball 2 or 3 times a week. I probably get hit in the head every other week or so. Honestly, I'm surprised this we don't have more concussions.

Although, I'm perferklie okaj, amiriiiiight? 🤪

Yep that’s DC, as JFK noted, the worst of both worlds: northern hospitality and southern efficiency!

It’s horrible across the board. Makes Philly look positively Midwestern with charm.

EDIT: to be fair the burbs like College Park are better. The city itself is pretty bad.

Kofi not flying with the team because how serious the concussion or is it there no way he would be cleared by tonight?

When the Vikings rolled...errr floated up to their next foreign land to conquer....they burned their boats after landing. Essentially...conquer our enemies...or die.

I'm guessing swimming with all that Viking war gear was a challenge.

Win or die trying.

(but don't die, it's an exaggerated metaphor from ancient warring tribes)

(I'm also not suggesting they burn the charter airplane after landing)

(but that would go viral)

The bartender was the only good one. Everyone else there was either dismissive or outright rude. But the bartender was definitely great.

Respectfully disagree. My hometown is a lovely, if idiosyncratic, place. Though, I must admit, it didn't prepare me for how nice everyone was gonna be in the midwest. I felt like such an a$$hole by comparison when I got on campus.

As for College Park, it has like 3 bars. Despite, thankfully, being built up recently, it's still a pretty sad college town.

I’m a big BU fan, but he needs to step up in games to protect his players. “Strong letter to follow” is sometimes not enough.

Was just about to post that, Dan.

Just remember folks: Omar’s was a flagrant, but Edey leading with elbows to the head was never looked at. That play was also from the first half, so explains a bit how Kofi struggled down the stretch. And again, he implored the refs to look at a similar play in the second half and got stonewalled.
To be fair Omar's was a flagrant. I wasn't real happy with it in the context and flow of the game (or the fact that it was against ratface) but Omar clearly very intentionally raked his face with the arm. If they would have been calling the rough play from Purdue it likely doesn't happen so I blame it on the stripes not keeping the physical play under control.

Just sitting at work, waiting on my hands. Oddly nervous for this game to tip. Not because I think we are doomed, but because I think it is an incredibly important game and will be an incredibly close game. Hope I’m proven wrong and I can rest a bit easier once play starts.

He rides the refs hard during the game. I’m sure he wanted to get a T against Purdue but there was never a good time to do it during the game.
Yea it is a very fine line between sticking up for the guys and getting them back into it versus having the wheels come off entirely and not being focused on playing against a very good team.

I thought the same thing. The times during the game when a T would have been appropriate occurred when we were already down 4 or 6 points. Giving up two free throws and possession would have dug the hole deeper. Of course, he could have waited until Purdue had the ball so we would have only lost the two points but you get my point. There just wasn't a good time to get a T.

Maybe, but I think it was just too close of a game to give up two free throws and possession. That alone would have cost the game before OT.

I was on Twitter a bit ago, and someone commented on the elbow and actually tried to rationalize it. Said that it was "unavoidable" because Eady is so tall. Otherwise "how is he supposed to play basketball". I was gonna reply but didn't because if that is the baseline to try to have a civil discussion - there is no convincing that guy that you can't just elbow people in the head because you are tall.

Sorry to offend. I've lived here on and off for 25 years and just haven't seen a significant change in customer svc attitude in the District. NoVA was fine when I lived there for a while. My little area near downtown Bethesda is a nightmare, frankly, but it's more the residents than the shopkeepers. And when I've gone back to the Midwest the past couple falls, after being away for a long while, I've just been knocked over at the difference everywhere.

But I have lived here for 19 of the past 25 yrs so I suppose that's what the economists would call "revealed preference." ;)

And "sad" is the best description of College Park I can think of! I like Hard Times Café in that shopping center w/Home Depot off US-1 by the Beltway. The waitstaff and bartenders in there are always friendly and the food's good. But a college vibe it does not have.

Well, off to the game. :illinois::ah:
